Chadcast – The Gospel According to St Pong III (5/16/14)

In 1973 a  relatively new employee Chad Bowers was tasked with reading the then new Atari company newsletter.

This is the final episode.

Atari’s in-house newsletter was called The Gospel According to St. Pong.
(“Founded in service to the Atari family,” read the masthead.) There had been a company-wide contest to come up with a name, and “a committeeof Atarians” chose from a list of candidates. Dennis Flinn of the purchasing department was the winner.

Presented  March 2014 on The Overnightscape Underground: an Internet talk radio channel, focusing on a freeform monologue style, with diverse and fascinating hosts.

  2. Thanks PQ. as you can tell, paradise is showing some cracks in this issue. I reached out to a person at Atari that was there during this time, hoping to ask more about what was going on.
Although some of it is explained pretty well in Curt Vendels book about Atari “Business is Fun”. It is a great resource for those interested.

I’ve meet with Curt and he is a great guy. He runs an Atari museum as well as he is the person that designed the chips and plans for the Atari Flashback series of game systems.

  3. Curt used to come to our Video Game Collectors meetings (eventually called NAVA) in the 1990s at Video Game Connections in Howell, NJ.
