Radio Free Shambles: Apartment Days, Part 2 (2/23/18)

49:33 – Ten years ago I recorded a series of audio journal entries and field recordings, burned the audio tracks onto three CDs, and stored them away with a bunch of other stuff. For a long while I forgot where they were, and had pretty much resigned myself to the belief that they were lost forever. Recently two of them have been rediscovered; the third is still missing. This is the second CD.

The recordings were made on an old cell phone, and the sound quality is not great… but I offer this up as an important part of my personal history.

Recorded 5/26/08 through 5/30/08. RFS 182.

Tape Land 45 – I Slight Ice Light – Dreams (Late 80s)

59:15 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I will be presenting the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

This is a very interesting tape. I recorded it my apartment at 170 Thompson St. in Manhattan, while attending NYU.

The first part is the soundtrack to an animated film I made (in 1988, I think). I used my Casio SK-1 and used a similar production method to my Little Frankie Nora music. The rest of the tape is me talking about my dreams and my weird experiences in college.

There are some audio problems – the volume is not consistent – I tried to amplify different sections to make it easier to hear.

1988?
0:00 – music for a stop motion animated movie I made in film school called “I Slight Ice Light”

Thu. Jan. 12, 1989
9:42  answering machine
11:57 – annoying noises
13:35 – recorder for dreams

Fri. Jan. 20, 1989
14:02 – dream – subway trips with girls
24:04 – supernatural college stuff

Mon. Jan. 23, 1989
41:03 – dream – hole in the basement wall – fairy-like creatures
54:52 – dream – interdimensional crawlspaces
