It’s been two years since I started my “rampling,” and I’m ready to start Year Three!

I’ve been exceptionally busy lately, working a lot at my acting gig at Kaplan, video shoots, parades, substitute teaching and officiating weddings. Here I drive down the New Jersey Turnpike on my way to a wedding, where I have noticed a major-scale construction project, which includes about 7 overpasses that don’t seem to lead to anything – mostly into woods and housing developments, with no road at either end. I worked in my son’s school, my wife went back to work. Crazy things have been happening lately – my son lost his hearing aid, my iPod went on the fritz, the car battery died… almost like Mercury Retrograde, or is it because my energy is off from being so exhausted? The Brian Jude Show: Excerpts from “The Miracle Man” Screenplay Reading, January 2, 2011 (1/4/11)

Selections from a public reading of a narrative feature film, “The Miracle Man,” based on the true and incredibly uplifting story of Morris E. Goodman. Presented at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, NJ by the UU Montclair Theatre Group. (And hey, Frank was there! Thanks, Frank!)

Morris Goodman was a successful insurance salesman. So successful, he bought himself his own airplane. On March 10, 1981, his during first solo flight in his new craft, the engine stopped, and he crashed the plane, crushing his spine, leaving him unable to walk, talk, swallow, breathe or move any part of his body except for his eyes. His doctors believed he would live a short, meaningless life, if he survived at all.

Morris had different plans…

What Morris had was his mind, and his faith that one day he would walk out on his own two feet, and make a full recovery, no matter what his doctors told him. Using the same step-by-step, goal-oriented approach he took in his career, Morris began to calculate the steps he needed to make toward recovery. He set a goal to be home by Christmas of that same year. He succeeded before Thanksgiving, just eight months after the accident…

Turner Classic Movies is getting ready to air one of the strangest Christmas films ever made. Created in 1959, its officially called “Santa Claus,” but it’s better known as “Santa Claus Vs. The Devil.” You might remember seeing it in Chattanooga theaters–it used get re-released every few years at Christmas. You might remember seeing it lampooned on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

The film was originally created in Mexico. A promoter named K. Gordon Murray brought it to the United States and dubbed it into English. Today, we will discover who K. Gordon Murray was, and why he brought this film to American children. In the 1960’s, Murray was known as the “King of the Kiddie Matinee.”

Notes: The Little Rascals are afraid they will lose their beloved teacher Miss Crabtree, so Jackie suggests they keep the school open all summer. The kids meet a man who they believe wants to marry Miss Crabtree, so they tell him lies about Miss Crabtree and steal his clothes when he goes swimming. The kids give fake answers to a bunch of questions in school, which they got from “Bonedust”. In the end, Miss Crabtree finds out what the kids have done and forgives them. The younger children find her brother’s clothes.
