The Frank Nora Time Machine – Hosted by Jimbo (1/9/16) 026

hymoos300 (1:09:17) Believe it or not, Jimbo’s back (although, he does not appear) in yet another episode of The Best of The Frank Nora Time Machine. Jimbo does add a LOT of new music, including previously unreleased tracks from “Very Frank Words” and the Fuzzy Wuzzy musical project (with words written by Nora for Fuzzy Daupner but music and performance by Jimbo.)

However, the heartbeat of this episode (and all of the Nora/Jimbo Time Machine episodes) is the fleshing out of Nora’s better bits in his far-off/somewhat-forgotten episodes. Jimbo hopes to present a new episode now and again and also plans to write numerous pieces of music to go along with them.

IN THIS EPISODE: (from The Overnightscape #81 9/11/04) Barbara Bush’s looks haven’t changed .. ♬ LEARN A LESSON FROM BARBARA BUSH .. orange juice concentrate .. ♬ WHY DO THEY CONCENTRATE THE ORANGES? .. Bill Clinton’s heart surgery .. ♬ BILL CLINTON DIED TODAY .. reading ‘lost’ Fuzzy Daupner lyrics (“Laser Baffle Rag”, of which all the following songs are taken:) .. ♬ I HAD AN OPEN MIND .. ♬ WAS DANA PLATO A LOSER? .. ♬ IS ANYTHING EVER GONNA BE EASIER? (version 2) .. ♬ SURF GUITAR IS MINIMALISTIC (edit) .. ♬ IS ANYTHING EVER GONNA BE EASIER? (version 1, edit) .. ♬ CHARLES NELSON REILLY ON CAFFEINE (edit) .. ♬ KITTEN KITTEN .. (end of Fuzzy Daupner stuff) .. review of Brian Wilson’s “SMiLE” .. on 9/11/04 Frank talks about the World Trade Center memories .. (from The Overnightscape #82 9/19/04) cinema rides and Show Biz Pizza Place Theaters .. new nickels reviewed (Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark) .. ♬  HE’S NOT MAGIC BUT NUMISMATIC .. ♬  PATCHING OUT

Hey Everybody, it’s Jimbo! – Special: Very Frank Words – 059 (11/28/15)

Very Frank Words - art by Clara Tse (33:18) Way back in 2003 the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, internet podcast pioneer Frank Edward Nora wrote a bunch of lyrics for a New Jersey “Folk Space Rock” band called ‘Fuzzy Daupner’ [history] [songs/lyrics]. Most of the lyrics Frank wrote were turned into music by the band and performed at many locales.

In the Spring of 2015, Jimbo ran across these songs for the first time while doing the show, The Frank Nora Time Machine – Hosted by Jimbo. Long story short, Jimbo asked Frank if he could take a shot at writing his own music for some/parts of those same lyrics – but not in the conventional way – more like – the ‘Jimbo way’.

Jimbo shuffled his feet and never did do much of anything with the lyrics – until about two weeks ago. And what you have here is the creation of the two. The lyrics are very Frank-like and the music is… well… Jimbo-like. Frank liked what he heard and Jimbo was also pleased and so the project has been released for all to hear.

Jimbo chose the name ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ for this project (in an obvious homage to Fuzzy Daupner).

All words by Frank Edward Nora. All music by Jimbo. The wonderful artwork is by Clara Tse (many thanks!) and a lot of PQ Ribber influence from his ‘Shocking Baby Secrets‘. What we have here is an Overnightscape Underground musical eruption.

If you wish, you can download the this entire project (iTunes-ready) here.

THE SONGS:
01 Stimulating Rio .. 02 Jar of Air from Dreamland .. 03 Boring Books Other People Read .. 04 I Had an Open Mind .. 05 Rows and Columns .. 06 Was Dana Plato a Loser? .. 07 Always Forget to Water My Plants .. 08 I Have Agreed .. 09 Inelegant Remains of Ice Cream Cake .. 10 Afraid of the Real Real Thing .. 11 Field of Silly Flowers .. 12 Sketching Dragons with Crayons .. 13 Dirty Fingers .. 14 Sign of the Malls .. 15 Sad Old Trees .. 16 Out of Phase .. 17 Love is All Around Me (Circle) .. 18 Is Anything Ever Gonna Be Easier? .. 19 Trapped .. 20 I’m A Pretty Cool Guy .. 21 Gun Metal Grey .. 22 You Could Be Mine .. 23 That’s All I Got .. 24 Let Me Shut Off

Fuzzy Daupner was an obscure New Jersey rock band which, in the brief span of 3 years (1998-2001), created a catalog of 32 amazing songs. You can here all of these songs right here, along with complete lyrics, below.

Fuzzy Daupner began in 1998 when Carrie Engdahl began collaborating with her sister Denice and Denice’s husband Frank on creating songs. Awhile later, they joined forces with Rob DiCaterino on drums and formed the band Fuzzy Daupner. The final member, Phil Mould on bass, joined a little later.

They produced two home-recorded, Internet-distributed albums, and played many shows around New Jersey and NYC. But they never got signed and they broke up in November 2001.

As you will hear, there is something rather unique about these 32 songs. This audio release will hopefully help in keeping the songs alive – it is intended as a reference source for the songs.

FUZZY DAUPNER

Carrie Engdahl – Vocals, Guitar
Rob DiCaterino – Drums
Phil Mould – Bass

Frank Edward Nora – Creative Direction

All 32 songs are the original creations of the members of Fuzzy Daupner. (Specific songwriting credits are not included in this post, but are available elsewhere.)

These 32 songs may be available as indivudal tracks in the future.
