Tape Land 65 – Bluffcosm Test #1 (March 2000)

1:42:36 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I will be presenting the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I had completely forgotten about this tape! It’s the first tape I made with my new tape recorder, at the start of my first Internet radio project, Bluffcosm. It mostly consists of ambient audio of NYC – including walking through the original World Trade Center and playing video games at some now long-lost Times Square arcades!

Notes: Wednesday, March 15, 2000, 6:55 PM, Park Row, NYC, just got a new tape recorder, officially kicking off the “Age of Bluffcosm”, ambient sounds of the city, microphone test, World Trade Center, subway, 50th Street, Times Square, cigar, Laser Park Arcade, Crazy Taxi, Broadway City Arcade, Port Authority Bus Terminal, buying a snack, giving directions, Thursday, March 16, 2000, 10:00 AM, on the bus, more ambient sounds of the city, subway, Varick Street, got coffee from Jack, auto reverse, elevator, arrived at work.

Rubenerd Show 376: The Embarcadero episode (7/8/18)

46:01 – Working from the San Fransisco office of the company I work for the next month, so I went wandering around Mission Rock, Embarcadero, the Bay Bridge, the docks, and a bit around the office. I’d write a more detailed description, but I’m doing double Australian and American shifts right now! Recorded over a week in late June 2018.

Recorded in San Francisco, California. Licence for this track: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. Attribution: Ruben Schade.

DS8: Shooting Wars (7/7/18)

32:59: The world of war movies examined, anachronistic equipment fighting on both sides and shooting conventions.  New movies from old!  The use of ‘cut and paste’ techniques explored – watch Tobruk become Raid on Rommel and 633 Squadron transform into Mosquito Squadron.  Republic serials and TV shows using second hand footage.  Italian war movies and recycled props and footage.  Strategic support provided by Tobruk (1967), Raid on Rommel (1971), Mosquito Squadron (1969) and Eagles Over London (1969).
