The Frank Nora Time Machine – Hosted by Jimbo – (4/25/15) 007

(49:42) – Welcome to The Frank Nora Time Machine (Hosted by Jimbo)

Get ready to hear some of the best all-time bits of Frank Edward Nora. Some of the bits here just last seconds, some a few minutes… but none of them last 263 days – (roughly the time it would take someone to listen to every Frank Nora story.)

Frank has fascinating stories, commutes and works in a great city, reviews malls, odd snacks and drinks. Jimbo adds his own two cents in various and sundry ways, and together, they make this series one of  the most unique  you have ever heard.

• Introduction, from The Overnightscape #26 (9/4/03) the bizarre magic shop in Oldwick NJ

• From The Overnightscape #27 (9/11/03) (Not included. This is an important episode with Frank’s reflections on 9/11 and the World Trade Center. Please listen to this episode as a standalone.)

• From The Overnightscape #28 (9/18/03) nada…

• From The Overnightscape #29 (9/25/03) cigars.1/v,  cigars.2/v

• From  The Overnightscape #30 (10/2/03) the hatch/v.picture show

• From The Overnightscape #31 (10/9/03) autumn fall, chanting curse on the Red Sox/J – the curse on Uncle Curtis, the very ambiguous musical piece from Frank’s random music generator, hypnopompic state/v.junk from Volume 3, personal triumph/v.book for Sade

Remember The Rampler (2008-2009) 25.24

Remember The Rampler (2008-2009) 25.24 (15:00 / 14 MB)
The Overnightscape Underground – February 2010 – Track 24

The Rampler. August 14, 2008 to October 10, 2009. 422 days. (March 13, 2009 is the midpoint, 211 days in.)

Remembering “The Rampler” with the first, middle, and last 5 minute segments of the show… The first 5 minutes of “The Rampler #1” from August 14, 2008. The middle 5 minutes of The Rampler recordings from March 13, 2009 (from “The Rampler #233”). And the last 5 minutes of “The Rampler on WFMU – Episode 16 – Night in Motion” from October 10, 2009.

In 2008, after 5 years of doing The Overnightscape, I was looking for a new method of doing the show that would take less time and effort. This experiment in field recording became “The Rampler”, and it was such a different experience, I took it in a whole new direction. It very quickly grew in popularity, largely due to my involvement in the “Andy Kaufman Lives” phenomenon. This led to an opportunity to bring the show to a real radio station – WFMU. But as 2009 wore on, the show’s popularity (at least as I perceived it) diminished, and the pressures of being on the “real” radio took away some of the spirit of spontaneity that the show had in its early months. And then… WFMU canceled the show. A little over a year after it had begun, The Rampler was finished.

I chose to continue my Internet radio recordings here on “The Overnightscape Underground” (which has been going great), and drop “The Rampler” name. While it is a good name, and I had a blast doing it, the name “The Rampler” is associated with energy and vibes that I would rather put behind me.

But what a wild ride it was!! This 15-minute audio piece is a brief encapsulation of the whole experience… but it’s all available for you to listen to…

396 episodes (19 days of audio):

367 of “The Rampler” (regular numbered episodes)

19 of “The Rampler on WFMU” (broadcast on 91.1 FM)

5 of “The Rampler on the Airwaves” (radio practice sessions)

4 of “The Rampler Special”

1 of “Beneath The Rampler on WFMU”

Get it all on the Frank Nora Archive. And most of it is also here on The Overnightscape Underground site, just use the search box on the right.

“MASTERMIND”
21:03 / 19.5 MB Frank in NYC in the afternoon. The fancy part of 57th Street, Invicta Venom Reserve Watch, the game “Mastermind” from the 70s, logic, plastic shield pet peeve, Tourneau, Louis Vuitton cool purse window display, criminals, knockoffs, The King of Fighters, melancholy music, American Idol, schtick, decades, the millennium, the goose eggs, the Y2K bug, Cloverfield, horsies, music, dancers, and parallel parking with a horse cart.

(This recording was broadcast at the beginning of the 8/29/09 WFMU show, but somehow it had a lot of weird static, so here it is in good audio quality.)
