Frank, congrats on the 7 year anniversary! Your work is awesome - interesting - thought-provoking - funny - and original.

The new site is amazing (and you should look into offering the look/feel to others and make mad cash). I'm sure there are others who
would love to consolidate multiple sites / projects in much the same way.

Here's to the next 7 years! FEN Rocks!

Thanks!! I have been dreaming a long time of creating a site like this for my archive. I was really amazed to find this Flash player application available, which was really far beyond any other Flash player I've ever seen. Still, there are a lot of features I would love to add in the future... but I think this is a big step forward!!

Frank, your archive site, is amazing. I have never seen a site designed in that way.
Dead simple, Years across the top, a easily used player, and auto loading of all content.
I hope more people will follow your lead on this, and also that you get the credit you deserve for not only your
work, but for putting this together.

Major Achievement Get!,
Awarded to Frank.

That complete nothingness that can't be named or visualized or imagined (otherwise it would be something) is something I thought about when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I kinda scared adults when I tried to explain it to them.

(I tried to edit my previous comment, but it didn't seem to work)

When Daptin creates his land, it's really not clear that many realities have crashed. Daptin only really mentions Arctica and Granticaine seems to just assume that Aconck is also gone. While it makes sense that the starting point would probably have been Aconck, I think more detail should be added somewhere. As far as I understand, Aconck isn't even on the same Earth as Arctica. We can't read Daptin's mind unless you let us, but it seems that Granticaine can.

Why would the coffee or cup want to send him to Arctica? I thought the cup was in Daptin's apartment and was most likely to bring him there. The only explanation I can think of is that, after Aconck crashed, the cup fell back to Daptin's origin as a secondary destination to try to reunite itself and its coffee in a more stable place.

Another thought I had was how damaging it would be if that void Daptin had created his land in was originally Aconck and now overwritten.

There's another error before "dow."

"Let's keep it as an option," Daptin said. "But for now, we'll make due."

The correct phrase would be "we'll make do."

I haven't noticed very many errors in the text, but that one just sorta jumped out at me.

If you're still interested in publishing the story as a real book, I suggest reading "Self-Editing for Fiction Writers." It's a great book and explains a lot of why Severe Repair doesn't make sense.

Nice show! About that "big brother like show"; when I was 20 I was following Big Brother here in sweden and thought it was sooo cool. Now I'm 26 and saw a re-run, and all those 23 year olds I thought was cool just looked like immature party teens with no soul or empathy lol.
I guess the older and wiser we get, the less things we have to look up too.

I have just tested the file by downloading it, and the file is fine and the full audio length is there. Also the RSS feed seems to be OK as well. This is probably an issue with your setup in some way... such as the download dropping off or the feed not updating... are you using the latest version on iTunes? Can you check the podcast setting for the feed?

I'm not understanding something. You say the file is 1 hour and 17 minutes, but when I stream it and even downloaded the MP3, its' only 40min long. it cuts off in the middle of the show. This is the second time this has happened. Also, my itunes no longer updates the show automatically. I have to go the the iTunes store and manually do it. Why is this? Anyone have any suggestions?

yep, I figured that was the case. First I was like WTF, there's a million videos of people lip syncing... then I realized that the camera is picking up the sound in that case. I was embedded an actual .mp3 into my video, not just recording the sound. Bastards!

Frank,

Great show, I'm half way through it, listened while cleaning the house. Curious what platform you got the Sonic Racing on. I tried the demo and it does look like a great game, I love the different characters that you can play. lots of variety.

I'll miss The Rampler...I have to say that it was one of the things that sort of "marked" one whole year for me, especially my trips to college and back. But still, "The Rampler" was just a name, and you're still you, so whatever show you do or whatever you call it, it's still awesome :) I still listen whenever I can :)

im listening over and over, missing some parts - i couldnt wrap my mind around the coffee idea for a while because there is no real science to it but my brain is sort of filling that in with imagination, i find you really have to use ur imagination on this, i guess like an episode of star trek, could you explain a bit more how a cup of coffee could last so long, are they different cups of coffees, i thought that maybe some universe or special dna may have been involved in the beans of the tree at some stage and so maybe the cup links that link through time, space and situation / reality are made from a certain type of anti matter that the tree that grew them, surley dapton and the likes want to chase down these cups so they would need to know how they are formed..... confused... so interesting though,

If one or one's family member has a pre-existing condition, you become a slave to the system and in many states have no choice but to find employment with someone offering a group plan. This indentured servitude competes with the notion that Americans pride themselves on promoting small business and traps many people.
I know that New Jersey is unusual and It is my understanding that people in NJ take advantage of a unique situation where many people effectively only purchase insurance after they need it, but this is not the case in the vast majority of states.

Woke up at 4am Sunday morning and spent a couple of hours hearing about weird hidden worlds wrapped in altered reality, and people with cool names.

Reminds me of the early nineties, when I was a geeky teenager listening to reruns
"Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" on crackly Long Wave radio from the BBC.

Really liked the bits, some folks were being a bit goofy but all in all really neat, especially for folks who loved the old games. I remember when I first saw PacMan being played, it was at Replay in Forsyth IL at the mall, at first they had it at the back of the arcade but when it became popular they moved it to the front and people would crowd around it to see what it was. I can remember when it was in the back I looked at it when some older dude was playing and thought was the hell is that, doesn't look interesting, then it the game just exploded and my Mom was even interested in playing the game, which was odd since she would berate me about spending money on video games all the time.

Anyhow that is one of the many video game stories I have.

Hey Frank! I'm getting back into ONSUG after a few month's hiatus. I just wanted to tell you a little about the Bonneville Salt Flats because I live in Utah. The salt flats are what's left of a gigantic lake (Lake Bonneville) that disappeared about 14,500 years ago. It was about the size of Lake Michigan, so it covered a huge part of Salt Lake City. Today you can see the shoreline of the lake on the hills around the valley, kind of like a line left after taking a bath.

And, most importantly, it was named after an explorer who went through the area in the 1800's.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I liked it but it didn't grab me like I was hoping it would. I really liked the fact that it wasn't overblown with special effects to show the time travel aspect which plagues a lot of time travel type movies, there is always the whole time travel sequence, i.e. Bill and Ted style.

Maybe I need to watch again.

Re: Positive thinking, "The Secret," etc. - yes, you absolutely have to be realistic, but like you said, we often limit our potential way below what we're actually capable of doing.

The most important thing, though, is that the positive thinking part is only the first step. You have to use that positive thinking to take action. If you said, "I want to be the world's greatest tennis player in one year," then sat on the couch and played video games for a year, it won't happen. (Well, maybe Wii Tennis might help or something, but still...) But if you had that same mindset, then spent every moment of every day doing what you needed to do to become the world's greatest tennis player - got a mentor, hit the courts for hours a day, changed your diet, read books on the sport, etc. - your chances will definitely improve. You might not become THE world's best player in a year, but you'll be better than most. (Maybe in 2-5 years, though, if you kept at it!)

Conversely, if you did all of those things, but told yourself, "This isn't going to work, I'm not going to become the world's greatest tennis player." - then you have a 100% chance of not becoming the world's greatest tennis player. That much is certain.

Think about that guy at that radio conference. He told you what to do - you went and talked to Sean Hannity. He dissed you. Why? Well, several reasons, I'm sure, but you also approached it with the mindset you've been carrying that celebrities don't like you. (TMBG, for instance.) That thought probably affects your action, your body language, your choices, the way you carry yourself, etc.

In summary, you need the right mindset, and take the right action, and that's how you achieve your goals. (The fact that you are a fantastic internet radio performer is a testament to that!)

Cheers,
Brian

Good timing....Just yesterday I spent half a hour looking for audiobooks to get online, and gave up after everything I tried to buy (on Audible) gave the message "sorry, we're not authorised to sell this audiobook in your territory. I'm beginning to think books have been banned by the new EU president or something!

FEN, I too am glad you are reading this. At some point in the future, it'd be cool to see you "boil down" just one or two of the main parts of the story and release a bound-book. With the iPad and Kindle, it looks like new opportunities for authors are popping up. Anyway, really enjoying this "new" part of ONSUG. Rock on.

Someday I will have to release my version! It's only about 3 minutes long, and it lacks sound. But I did use special effects! I used the "backwinding" effect to superimpose ghost chickens on the scene.

You briefly mentioned Peer Gynt, wondering what it was.

It's a famous Norwegian play, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer_Gynt it contains a few iconic music pieces you have probably heard at some point (think there are samples on Wikipedia as well if you drill down under the music section).

Avatar was a lot better than I expected it to be too, given its popularity. Aside from a few cliched & predictable moments, it was near perfect, imo. I give it a solid 9/10.

you should see AVATAR on the legit IMAX. the story is lame, but the action and visuals are great. Going in knowing the story is lame is probably key in enjoying it.
I think the Lincoln center is the only good one to see it in... i saw it in real3d first and liked it but was meh, saw it large in IMAX and it definitely made the experience better.

whoops crap! saw u mentioned it... i stopped watching during the filler arcs.... those are episodes that are put in to fill in the gaps,
because the actual animation was catching up to the comic book.... shipuuden is the actual continuation.

Sounds like you need Denise to pick up some extra spicy food, seems to be one of the better things for

Ah, this takes me back. A year ago I was commuting 2 hours each way to Dublin, and one day there was snow. Irish people are not accustomed to snow, and never prepared for it.

We left Dublin by car at 5:30pm and reached our house at 1am.

I don't commute anymore. Wohoo!

It took me 4.5 hours to get to work. Longest commute of the year resulted in the shortest workday of the year. Decided to take the Belford Ferry home. Too many tourists. Everyone dropping things, running into each other. Strange day.

OK, so now you will be deluged with App reccomendations from the ONSUG army. Here is mine:

1. Geocaching (official app, fun to look up nearby caches whereever you are)
2. Amazon.com - Quick price compare for most anything
3. IMDB app - so many answers
4. PhoneFlicks - so easy to add and manage your queue
5. Dragon Dictation - Fascinates me how well this works
6. Skype - If you have a wifi signal, you have free calls anywhere
7. Stanza - The world of free ebooks
8. RjDj - Turns the phone mic into a exploratory audio reality enhancement/art space device
9. NixieClock - Looks just like a NIXIE clock, you can use it like a clock - Sometimes I just like to stare at it.
10. Star Rangers - It is STAR RAIDERS or as close as it gets so far on the iphone
11. Police Radio - App lets you tune into 1000's of local police/air/fire radio broadcasts

And offcourse my favorite APP:
~. Always looking for other apps because I have very very little attention span and always like to find out what is new.
(IRONY- I love PopSci the "what is new" magazine - but I love looking at old PopSci "what is new" even more!)

Your description of Spaceboat sort of sounds like "The Starlost", an infamous Sci-Fi TV show by Harlan Ellison. Here's the wiki link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Starlost
I agree with your idea that it should be a tv series. Download a copy of Final Draft and get writing!

The idea that some nut is in the middle of times square with a machine gun is crazy scary and the fact that he was willing to use it over defending his $1000 a day hustle is even scarier. I can only imagine if his machine gun would have worked what the death toll may have been. I used to have to deal with these kind of personal attacks in New Orleans and really believe that it is the same as a robbery, the clear implication is hand over $10 or I'm willing to kill you.

While this is a multifaceted issue, I did not disapprove of what the police did. I do think they should crack down on the "CD sellers". What that guy did was just insane, pulling a gun on the cops, what did he expect.

Frank, those thugs on the street robbing people with use of fear sound like a total blight on society. I can't help but feel that you give them too much understanding and that you give the cops too little. I know we are supposed to always think of the cops as pigs etc, but come on. The only thing protecting normal people from these creeps are the underpaid, overdangered, over-regulated poor police people.

Thanks Frank, enjoyed the programme. I remember Magic Makers, I think I do, anyway, the ones used on Match Game '77, the black body with the silver blue and red label. I could have sworn that they once said magic marker, maybe Magik Marker, love the smell of those. Delicious.

Russians finally confirmed that it was a failed missile http://www.examiner.com/x-958-Tampa-Space-Program-News-Examiner~y2009m12d11-Mysterious-lights-in-Norway-Russian-missile-test guess they where too embarrassed by the 6th failure in a row to admit it at first...

Here is my Norwegian perspective on the Obama peace price thing:

I tend to agree that it was "too early" at the very least (population is fairly evenly split but a ~10-20% majority do seem to support it), yeah I can understand the explanation about him working to reduce nuclear weapon stockpiles and so forth and it's not entirely undeserved, but I don't understand the rush, they could have at least given him a few years and see what he actually accomplished first rater than award it for just good intentions. My guess is that it was a "dry year", and they took the opportunity to jump on the Obama bandwagon "while the iron is hot" as it where to get some publicity and/or give a vote of confidence for his stated policies. To be honest I think it was far worse when they awarded it to Al Gore for his anti-climate change work. I mean regardless of what side you are on the climate change thing it's the Nobel peace price, not the Nobel environmentalism price...

I'm not too upset about the Afghanistan and Iraq stuff to tell the truth, some people are very adamant that the leader of a nation at war should never be awarded the price period. I think that's overly black & white thinking though, he did not start those wars and now that they are his mess he have no choice but to act responsibly and try to re-establish some semblance of order before pulling out. Hopefully he can drum up some more international support than Bush managed to help get the situation to a point where all foreign troops can safely leave without it turning into a 5 way civil war the day after.

Decades are informal. They are not a way of counting time since Year One. "The Eighties" is from 1980 to 1989. 1990 is not, and should not, be part of the "The Eighties". "The Twentyteens" is from 2010 to 2019. However, if you wanted to say "The 202nd Decade", that would be from 2011 to 2020. But for whatever reason, we do not use that numbering system for decades. We just use the informal system.

I totally forgot about the Fotomat! It's amazing how something so pervasive in our culture can be completely wiped from the collective memory. I'm going to start hunting for Fotomats as well.

I agree with you, this is a very strange time to be doing Internet radio... the way "podcasting" has unfolded over the years is really confounding to me... and now that big media companies are getting more and more involved with online media, who knows where it's all headed. For me, I just want to keep doing recordings in a sustainable way - less expectations and less impact on my life. But of course I hope some new trend will catch on and independent media can have a resurgence...

The “Twentyteens” works for me, so I’ll go with that from now on. It’s the catchiest name I’ve heard so far for the decade, and that whole sense of identity that it gives people is probably more important than the technical correctness of the name.

I think perhaps the goal is to put the information right in front of people's faces - of course with the understand that it will go over most people's heads. I think that in some deep and twisted way, the powers that be seek the consent of those they are dominating. So they are saying like "okay, these pop stars you obsess over are really tragic mind control victims - yet you keep the cycle going with your fandom". The same thing with the banking system. The information is out there that the system is completely abusive and criminal in nature yet people either don't understand it or don't care about it - and it keeps going on. In both cases there is a degree of consent, which I think further emboldens the dominators.

great episode, but i have a question about you lady gaga illuminati thing.

why would a puppet of a secret society blatantly use symbolism?
who is it for? what's the purpose, for other illuminati to say, "oh that's cool?"
i really don't get that, or is that supposed to be some sort of catalyst for
mind control?

i'm not trying to step on peoples beliefs, i myself am fascinated by weird stuff people do,
this one just seems to be pointless to me. a little help?

That observatory in the first scene of "The Wizard of Speed and Time" is at Big Bear Lake here in SoCal. It's a solar observatory. The lake water surrounding it dampens the heat "wave" effect allowing less distorted viewing of the sun. http://www.bbso.njit.edu/

Frank, Thanks for pointing out some great points about the Alamo, It is something that more people should know about.

It is surprising to people like you and me, that others would have slaves, but we must realize that slavery has existed in recorded history for over 6000 years, and probably existed during pre-history periods as well.

Also before we are too quick to judge our dead relatives for accepting its existance, we should think about the millions of slaves alive today, that work in sweat shops around the world.

We occasionally think about them, but all too often, we just support their existence with our purchasing habbits.

How is it that we accept the death of millions from starvation? How do we value low prices higher than human life?

There seems to always be horrible people in the world that will do whatever it takes to exploit others, the rest of us, like cattle or sheep, may not like it, but often we don't know what to do, or how to stop it.

I have read about the usual justifications that were givin in the past to justify slavery such as biblical quotes, comaring them to wild animals, saying that we are saving them from hell, or that we were bringing them knowledge of god, but I can't believe that most people did not realize in their hearts that it was wrong. I have to hope that at least there was some dissonance in their minds about the worlds reliance on slavery.

Just as it is easy today to blame the "3rd world" people for modern slavery, we must admit some culpability on behalf of the dead americans, as their demand for lower prices was also responsible, so too, were the demands of American and European industrialization. (Its not like the millions of dirt poor southerners were buying all that cheap cotton)

Could it be true?

It think it's true.

Well done Frank!
