Hey Everybody, it’s Jimbo! – Tips – 078 (1/31/16)

tascam_dr-07mkii_usd (45:30) A bit of a coincidence spurs Jimbo into action; he made this podcast to seize upon the inspiration. He insists he’s not an expert but he provides a bunch of tips and personal opinions about the art of podcasting that he’s learned since he began doing it three years ago.

contents
it’s a privilege to podcast .. had recorded a ‘tips’ podcast on Saturday .. saw a Mike Boody Periscope video on podcasting (Saturday night) .. physical and mental art of podcasting .. not an expert .. have picked up some tips .. my indoor equipment: laptop, 50″ TV, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, Wavepad software, Tascam recorder, tripod, no longer monitor myself, keyboards (music) .. explaining how I meant to use the keyboards .. using websites for sound effects .. mental aspects of podcasting .. using notes, taking notes .. rampling without notes .. a talent? .. talking to the microphone .. Sharpie marker .. try not to go over an hour .. trying not to go over 50 minutes .. setting the bar at 40 minutes .. 30 minutes is better .. 4 hours = better be important .. reasons why I wouldn’t listen .. not trying to hurt your feelings .. **I am your biggest fan** .. I _try_ to listen to every podcast .. editing is the most important thing you can do .. you’re an idiot if you just slap your show online .. if you have something to say and are entertaining you are worth listening to .. but if you don’t edit… .. not being open .. my biggest mistake .. I’ve made these mistakes – learn from my/your mistakes .. production value (Fusebox and Marc Rose) .. learn from Marc Rose .. nobody here can match Fusebox .. tell stories (real or unreal) .. descriptive rampling .. learning from Frank and Ruben Schade .. PQ Ribber’s schtick (weird stuff) .. your show doesn’t have to be ALL YOU .. turn the mike on someone else .. something different is exciting .. humor .. jealous of Ruben’s shows .. Fusebox production is not unattainable .. Eddie Murray’s enjoyable production .. time constraints .. thank you all/PQ for the Overnightscape Central .. turn your mike on other podcasters .. ask silly questions (for a fun show) .. when you get in a rut, diversify .. re-using old Central topics .. talk about music, movies, television .. the importance of show notes .. provide show notes! .. no show notes for my first 2 months on the Quakquaversal Satellite .. lots of stuff there no one knows about .. it’s important to listen to other’s shows on the Onsug .. leave comments for others! .. discouraged by lack of comments .. my outside box for podcasting: portable recorder #2, my tiny flexible tripod, gripper, get a kit, dead cat (wind cover) _needed_ for recording outside, pad and marker, colored stickers, power cord, extra batteries, flashlight and clip-on light with bendable neck .. difference in recording outside than inside .. edit out looking up websites .. _remember_ – I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN and I appreciate you, so take this (tips/criticism) in the spirit it is meant to be taken

sade (1:08:57)
Your hosts Jimbo and PQ Ribber provide you with four episodes; three of these rank extremely high on fans’ “Best of” lists. Hear young Rush plan to have a tattoo artist at a party; hear Sade control Vic’s desire for a ‘cowboy hat’; hear an excited Sade gush over her new overnight bag (it’s the latest, latest tan!) and hear Dwight Twentysixler and his mouthful of nails.

If you are a fan of the show – this is the place to be. If you are new to the show, here’s your chance to hear some of the show’s best episodes in one fell swoop – and Jimbo and PQ unfurl the hidden and obvious details.

Rubénerd Show 322: The reading into Straya episode (01/27/16)

52:35 – Anyone will tell you it’s a prison island, hidden in the summer for a million years. Happy Australia Day with this discussion of what should be the anthem, Captain Cook, our native peoples, where we all live, cliché Australian tourism advertising, Outback Steakhouse, and humbling flights over the desert. Topped off with a Midnight Citizen-inspired discussion on rapidly fading music and book retail (Coconuts, Borders, Angus & Robertson, Tower Records, HMV in Singapore, the magical late 1990s), and the darn space all those books and DVDs take up. Released late because work has been tough, hope it was worth it!

Recorded in Sydney, Australia. Licence for this track: Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. Attribution: Ruben Schade.

Released January 2016 on Rubénerd and The Overnightscape Underground, an Internet talk radio channel focusing on a freeform monologue style, with diverse and fascinating hosts.
