Falling Cow Compendium: Quick Brown Fox (2/27/18)

32:35 – My archive.org mining has turned up a virtual treasure trove of recordings from cassettes made in the early 1980s – lots of informative and entertaining audio letters by Jim Carlson and relatives. These are strangely reminiscent of our beloved longform monologue shows here at Onsug. The first two of these recordings are included here, with more to come in future episodes.

Tape Land 46 – Studio Test / Commute (2002)

42:11 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I will be presenting the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I set up my home studio that would become The Overnightscape Studio a full year before I started The Overnightscape. This is the first test, with my Shure 55SH microphone, Joemeek channel strip, and Behringer mixer. After the brief test, I record on my NYC commute with a Walkman recorder.

[3/29/02] (0:00) testing my new studio setup, [4/3/02] (3:28) morning ferry commute, (5:18) commute sounds, (7:34) elevator, [4/12/02] (9:26) street sounds, [4/26/02] (17:45) bus stop – Obliviana Wander Radio, (24:40) street sounds, (25:50) street protest, [4/30/02] (35:19) rainbow, on ferry, World Trade Center, (40:25) subway beggar.

Radio Free Shambles: Apartment Days, Part 2 (2/23/18)

49:33 – Ten years ago I recorded a series of audio journal entries and field recordings, burned the audio tracks onto three CDs, and stored them away with a bunch of other stuff. For a long while I forgot where they were, and had pretty much resigned myself to the belief that they were lost forever. Recently two of them have been rediscovered; the third is still missing. This is the second CD.

The recordings were made on an old cell phone, and the sound quality is not great… but I offer this up as an important part of my personal history.

Recorded 5/26/08 through 5/30/08. RFS 182.
