Nightstation PC Demo Discovered

Back in 2014 I made a VR demo called “Nightstation Ride One” which I presented at the SVVR conference in Mountain View, California.

It was the next year, I think, that I thought to make a non-VR version of it – and I recently found it!

It runs great on my laptop. It’s Windows only. Download:

http://www.theovernightscape.com/shows/Nightstation_Ride_One_PC_win32.zip

Instructions: Move mouse to look around. Hit ALT-F4 to quit.

As this is an old demo, I don’t know how well it will work on any other computer, so use with caution.

Here’s an old video of the VR version. The non-VR version does not have the “split screen” effect:

The New Nightstation

Welcome to Nightstation – my new VR project.

As you may remember, Nightstation was originally a brief Internet radio experiment (from Nov. 2011 to Feb. 2012).

In the Spring of 2012, I spent a huge amount of time and energy to obtain the domain name Nightstation.com.

And then… nothing… Nightstation was completely inert… until now!

Nightstation Flashback Plus: Queens Malls (12/30/11) (8/31/12)

1:49:31 -  These are two recordings that stand out in my mind, where I ventured out to malls in Queens and made special recordings. The first one was for the Nightstation patch Coaxial, and the second one was for “Basic Overnightscape”. I’ve collected them here so that they are easier to listen to.

On both recordings I talk about new ideas – Nightstation in the first one and Ramplers in the second one. Both ideas are related, and I’ve had to go back to the drawing board on both of them. I’m still working on these kind of ideas, and I’m hopeful that some variant will be useful when the time is right… but in any case, it’s therapeutic for me to revisit these recordings…

Nightstation Flashback: Gasohol Segment 4 (12/1/11)

1:32:26 – I’ve been listening to old Nightstation segments and I came across this one from the Gasohol patch, and I really enjoyed it. I figured I would release it here for everyone to check out. This is the first time it’s been released in “hifi” audio. Topics include De La Soul, Stereolab, The Word, Katie Puckrik, Perfect Gambler, and The Jim Henson Hour Pitch Tape.

I’m still thinking about Nightstation. It had a number of aspects that worked, both also a lot that didn’t work. I still may bring it back someday in a new form.

Nightstation with Eddie 1: Sphynx (2/14/12)

2:00:05 – Eddie sent this in on the same day I decided to end the Nightstation experiment (for the time being). He did this show in the “phase 2” style I established last week in “Swank”. So this will be the last Nightstation patch, for a while at least.
