All this talk of the Monkees special represents another bit of weird pop culture synchronicity, in that, by pure coincidence, I spent some time searching for some information about a documentary I once saw about its producer, Jack Good last weekend. The documentary – called ‘A Good Man..is Hard to Find’ – was shown by the BBC about eight years ago and consequently seems to have vanished. It covered his involvement with the special, including some footage, (the only parts of the show I’ve ever seen). I must admit that I was quite surprised by how crude it looked, both in picture quality and production values, compared to the TV series. I recall that Good commented that he was surprised it was ever made, let alone shown, by the network, as it highlighted the fact that The Monkees were an entirely manufactured group created for television.
Anyway, for what it’s worth, Jack Good is still around (he’s in his 80s now), but something of a recluse. These days he dresses like a monk and creates religious icons, having decided to walk away from showbiz some years ago.
