I must admit that I forgot about the deep fried Mars Bars the Scots seem so fond of, (in fact, they’ll deep fry just about any chocolate bar – and they wonder why their average life expectancy is so low?). But, as you noted, Edinburgh is the other end of the country from me, (indeed, it could be in another country altogether, depending on the results of next year’s Scottish independence referendum). Every year I vow that I’m going to visit the Fringe, but I never do.
Getting back to Mars Bars, following some research in the supermarket this evening, I’m happy to confirm that Topic bars are still available. I also missed out the Bounty Bar, another popular Mars product, (it has a coconut filling). I actually ended up buying a Mars Bar – OK, I bought a three pack, it was the cheaper option – and I’m pleased to say that the wrapper proudly proclaims that it is still made in Slough. Anyway, at some point in the near future I’ll be eating a Mars Bar again, (I blame you PQ, for tempting me to lapse in my abstinence, thanks to your choice of subject for this week’s Central), so I’ll be able to update you on whether they still help you work, rest and play!

Thanks Jimbo!
Doc, I love the Mars bar and totally appreciate what you are saying about the older style wrappers. The sealed plastic film they use now loses the ritual of enjoying a treat properly. Its as if the treat itself and the act of enjoying it have been reduced. I totally agree that I have reached the age where I am living on a different planet.
