  1. Enjoying the old time radio. I, too, prefer the comedies, and Fibber & Molly, Lum & Abner, Jack Benny and Great Gildersleeve are among my favorites as well. You mentioned Gunsmoke as a drama you like, and I enjoy listening to it, too, but I can’t take it entirely seriously when I start totalling up Matt Dillon’s body count over the entire series. I do prefer Conrad to Arness as Dillon, but I guess he wasn’t the right body type for TV.

The Fibber & Molly poster is interesting in that the two stations mentioned are KDKA Pittsburgh, which is the only station I know of east of the Mississippi whose call letters don’t begin with “W”, and WCKY in (at that time) Covington, Kentucky — hence their call letters. Nowadays they claim to be from Cincinnati, and it’s true their offices are over there, but they still transmit from the Kentucky side of the river.

  2. Lots of people killed in Gunsmoke. I prefer Conrad too…

Love sitting around listening to Fibber and Molly.

  3. Me too. On some of the later Fibbers, Cliff Arquette (best known as Charley Weaver) is credited, and I was having trouble figuring out what part(s) he played, but I think I have solved at least part of the mystery. I believe he plays Bessie, the Old Timer’s girlfriend.

  4. I do know that Charley Weaver played the man at the water place out of town… he would run off anyone who came out there (Gildy) and was on several shows.

  5. Out at the reservoir, on Gildersleeve, you mean? The old guy who kept everything running, so to speak? I think his name was Charley (or Charlie) on the show, too.
