I have the solution! When Vic goes by Holder Bros. to get the chain for the porch swing, he can get a pair of post-hole diggers (if he doesn’t already have one) and a fence post (assuming Holder Bros. does lumber as well as hardware) and install a post at the proper distance from a Gook tree to hang one end of the hammock.
One slight misreading by Bernardine Flynn: When Sade says, “He never behaved like he was miffed” she makes it sound like a statement that Uncle Fletcher has never, ever, behaved that way, when really her inflection should make the line a question about whether Uncle Fletcher behaved that way when Rush saw him.
