  1. Another perfect capsule of what you do best – so many fascinating recollections and recommendations and rabbit holes. I remember you mentioning Johanna’s involvement with Hedwig – that production is one of the most bootlegged Broadway things I’ve come across. We disagree on Hamilton but I suppose it’s an acquired taste. I was with it before Broadway, when it was a mix tape, and immediately enjoyed the album and fillm when they were released. I think the core of the thing is the father/son relationship which hits home with me. Loved The Other Side – I somehow own the audio version of Alice in Wonderland Jane Asher refers to in that clip. It’s buried in Google Takeout, a Google Play purchase from a decade ago. I am immediately obsessed with Spiney Norman Bates – downloading the album now. Anything more to know about how you discovered it? And finally, I’m very happy with your ‘Radio Station inside a Book’ concept.

  2. I found Spiney Norman Bates which searching for Smersh recordings on Archive.org. I knew them and their music from the comic book store I went to in the 80s – they did a song for my “Weird University” video, and I did a video interview with them for school. They had a bunch of stuff on “Bird’o’Pray Records” based in Trenton, NJ. I would get their tapes at a local record store. Turns out they were associated with the guys who would become Ween. So – Spiney Norman Bates was released by Bird’o’Pray, but I had never heard of it before finding it the other day. The guy who made it, William Tucker, was also in the band Regressive Aid which I was a fan of back then. Later, he joined Ministry and other bands… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tucker_(musician)

  3. And thanks for the thumbs up on “a radio station inside a book”… it was a rough idea for me at first, but it’s been growing on me, and I think it’s good for the project as it moves into the future…
