SERMONS #58 – Budding Rods & Bamboo Rhizomes (7/24/23)

29:36 – The Yahwelians rig yet another miracle by means of their superior scientific knowledge, but they leave some clues indicating how they did it. Dave in Kentucky attempts to solve what Erle Stanley Gardner might have called The Case of the Blossoming Rod. Also: Did the Levites live high on the hog on the public dime? Why did the Edomites hold a grudge against the Israelites? Why were Moses and Aaron denied access to the Promised Land? Et cetera.

Show art: “Aaron’s Staff Buds” (1860) by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872), Public Domain.

Theme music: Unknown hymn used as the theme music for Father Coughlin’s radio show in the 1930s, Public Domain. All music performed by Dave in Kentucky (2021-2023), Public Domain Dedication.

  1. That ‘Father’ was a harsh fellow. By the standards given, the Promised Land would be uninhabited.

  2. Joshua and Caleb would have got to go in, I guess, but probably uninhabited except for those two.

A harsh Father, indeed. All those animal sacrifices, just to produce a sweet savour. Killing off the other ten spies because they turned in unsuitable reports. Opening sinkholes to swallow some of the malcontents, and focusing deathrays on the others. But you know, we must have seemed like bugs to them, so they probably didn’t consider it all that harsh.

Thou shouldst checketh thy email, by the way.
