Jean Shepherd 1956 Postcard

I bought this on eBay a few years ago, from the estate of Lois Nettleton, who was married to Jean Shepherd from 1960-1967. I assume Shep received this and kept it. The artwork was drawn onto the postcard by a fan who is only identified as “Enigma Inc.” Click for larger images…

  1. Even back then the Post Office was pretty efficient. Look at the address on that card and Shep still got it!

  2. That would be one of my most valuable possessions!

  3. I followed all the items on ebay from Lois Nettleton’s estate, and bought a number of them. I have a postcard from him to her, an original letter from him to her, an original valentine she made for him and a drawn valentine he made for her. I also have several of his original ink drawings. I have ebay copies of all the items for sale (including your postcard) in a looseleaf album titled “Lois Nettleton’s Jean Shepherd Album.” The drawings and valentines I have framed on a wall. As you can see, I’m a Shep kook!

I’ve also spent a good deal of the last decade writing about Shepherd, including my book, EXCELSIOR, YOU FATHEAD! THE ART AND ENIGMA OF JEAN SHEPHERD. I’ve got enough material for two other books, ready to seek a publisher. All this keeps me off the streets!

Are you aware of the great Shep website flicklives.com, and the easy availability of hundreds of audios of his broadcasts?

    Excelsior!
