  2. I tried root beer once. It was back in the days when I had a job that took me to the States every so often. Having grown up watching US films and TV series, I’d always been intrigued as to exactly what root beer was (as you noted Frank, we don’t have it in the UK). So, when I found myself confronted by a can of the non-alcoholic variety in the Officers’ mess at Bolling Air Force Base, (I was there for a conference), I couldn’t resist. It was truly disgusting. Out of courtesy to my hosts I had to finish the infernal stuff, but every mouthful was a trial. I don’t mean to insult an American tradition, but guys, how can you drink that stuff? Yeeeuck!

  3. When I was young my grand mother made home made rootbeer. Very good stuff. Some of the fields had a very root beer smell to them when you disc’ed them. Homemade rootbeer has a small amount of alcohol, probably less than a percent or so. It might be an aqquired taste but i really love it with a hint of licorice root as well.
