The Overnightscape Grand Shuffle (12/2/12)

3:29:00 – Conceived of as an entry for “Reuse Aloud” on basic.fm, The Overnightscape Grand Shuffle consists of over 1,200 random 10-second sound segments from the entire run of The Overnightscape so far.
Spanning from the first episode on March 27, 2003 to Episode 931: Granny Takes A Trip from November 28, 2012 (just a few days ago), the archive contains over 42 days worth of audio. This was split into over 350,000 10-second MP3s, which were then loaded into iTunes, and it took iTunes over 24 hours to process all the MP3s. From there, a 209-minute random smart playlist was made, and then played and recorded in real time.
The resulting work is a dizzying trip of constantly changing yet strangely consistent ideas and topics, people and places. Synchronicities and weird thematic trends surface and submerge over the course of three and a half hours. It’s a very different yet very familiar listening experience, maddening and soothing, mundane and insane all at once. Enjoy.

I’m about 30 minutes into this and LOVE the clips. I’ve listened to all the shows (I think) so hearing bits and pieces brings back great memories of these shows!!! Thanks 🙂

Very big enjoyment from this show. A fun trip through the Overnightscape, like sliding across time and subjects.
