The complete archive of The Overnightscape Underground (up to September 2011) contains 3,094 shows, totaling 3.7 months of audio (2,679 hours). This includes everything – all of my shows – The Overnightscape, The Rampler, The Frank Nora Show, etc.  Plus, all the shows by the other hosts.

You can find the entire archive in its own collection on Archive.org. This is every show in hi-fidelity audio (MP3s, usually at 128kbps stereo). The whole collection is currently at 144 GB. All the shows are Creative Commons licensed and are free to download.

I think it’s a good idea for listeners to have a copy of the entire archive in their possession. We live in rather unstable times, and the more copies out there, the better. Plus, you can listen to any show, anytime, whether you’re online or not.

144 GB is a lot to download – so I have an alternative – Pocket Overnightscape. This is the same exact collection as on Archive.org, just in lo-fi audio (24kbps mono MP3s) – and just 27.4 GB to download! The lo-fi sound is very similar to listening to AM radio, with a warm and pleasant feel.

You can currently get a 32 GB USB flash drive for around $40. I just put the entire collection on a 32 GB drive and it fits, with 2.7 GB to spare -  enough for many months of audio to come. Of course, you can just put the files on a hard drive, but I think it’s cool to have the collection on a little separate object.

The archive is separated into lots. There are currently 72 lots – each of which is a separate folder. So, the set of 72 folders makes up the current archive. October 2011 will be Lot 73.

To get Pocket Overnightscape, just download all the ZIP files in this directory: onsug.com/pocketzips – (double check if your ISP allows for unlimited downloading – 27.4 GB is still a lot of data, and depending on your plan it could exceed your limits – be careful! You may want to download them one by one, over the course of time, if this is an issue for you. Your ISP may charge you data overage fees so definitely check into this before downloading.)

Unzip the files before adding them to your personal container. Keep each lot in its own folder.

The archive is also available to browse as loose files here: onsug.com/pocketloose – this will allow you to download individual shows.

Check the newest lot for the most up to date Overnightscape Handbook – a guide which contains a massive amount of information about the shows.

Thanks for checking out Pocket Overnightscape!

P.S. If you are not able to download the files, let me know. I could transfer the files to a drive you provide and then mail it to you.

P.P.S. If enough people are interested we could do this as a torrent…
