The Sounds of Disneyworld, Part 3 (4/16/14)

2:25:50 – Part 3 recorded 10/2/13 and 10/4/13.

Shambles and the Constants explore Disneyworld! We’re back at Epcot, catching a few attractions we had missed before (and a revisit to Turtle Talk; the audience participation makes every visit with Crush a little different). Starting at about 1:05:51, and continuing for the next hour, you will hear an ambient soundscape as I walk all the way around the countries of the Epcot world. (In fact, I think I walked all the way around twice!)

In the last ten minutes Jackie and I do The Sum of All Thrills, where you can design your own roller coaster track. Jackie wrote a report on this experience for school. She said she really enjoyed it, and her teacher said her report turned out great.

This concludes the Sounds of Disneyworld Trilogy.

Great Moments From Lum and Abner, Part 2 (4/12/14)

1:10:43 – A compilation of some of my favorite clips from my favorite old-time radio program, Lum and Abner. Second of four audio releases. I’m hoping these clips will give you a good idea who the varied characters are. Keep in mind that most of these characters were played by either Chester Lauck (Lum Edwards, Grandpappy Spears, Cedric Weehunt) or Norris Goff (Abner Peabody, Dick Huddleston, Squire Skimp, Mousey Gray, Ulysses S. Quincy, Doc Miller). These clips are taken from various storylines from the run of the series, but hopefully I’ve included enough that they can be easily followed outside of context of the episodes. The “two old fellows” manage the Jotem Down Store for most of the series, with the occasional side venture into some other business, including a movie theater, a circus, a bank, and a radio station, among many others. This collection just barely scratches the surface of this top-notch old-time radio program, which aired from 1933 to 1954. Oh, what a beauty day!

Keep an ear out for Ben Withers (Clarence Hartzell, who played Uncle Fletcher in Vic and Sade).

Brazen Gestures – Library of whims and ideas (4/12/2014)

Rediscovery of the library vs. co-oworking space  |  ‘In the money spending mood’ series: new Wacom drawing tablet vs. new iMac  |  getting lazy with clothing purchases  |  Shame of gaming (procrastination)  |  Bioshock Infinite |  Why travel if you have VR?  |  Indonesian memories vs. Bioshock  |  Waiting for ‘Facebook Rift’ (?) |  Learning German trough comic books and memrise app |  Easter denial 2014  |  End of Cinematography?

“In the 1950s, cinema was as important as bread—but it isn’t the case any more. We thought cinema would assert itself as an instrument of knowledge, a microscope, a telescope…At the Cinémathèque, I discovered a world which nobody had spoken to me about. They’d told us about Goethe, but not Dreyer…We watched silent films in the era of talkies. We dreamed about film. We were like Christians in the catacombs.” – Jean-Luc Godard
