Notes from Station Unlimited release, December 2005:

This journey starts off with me and Peter Litkey driving to pick up his friend Brian. We then go to see Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Afterwards, we drive around very wealthy areas of New Jersey, visit Pete’s old school, and Pete’s car reaches 200,000 miles. Along the way we talk about many interesting things!

Recorded on May 28, 2005, I kept meaning to edit it and play it on the show, but I never got to it. So as time went on, it became known as “The Lost Audio Field Trip”. Now, it is released in all of its 2+ hour glory!

Notes from Station Unlimited release, October 2006:

Recorded on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at a bar called “One and One” (at the corner of 1st Ave. and 1st St. in Manhattan). Starring Greg Narain (Beercasting.com / Sparkcasting.com), Steve Warren (InteractiveNYC.com), Frank Edward Nora (TheOvernightscape.com), and waitress “Myar”.

Here’s the story – Greg created the website “Beercasting.com”, with the general idea of getting a bunch of people together at a bar, and then recording and podcasting their conversation on several different topics. At some point, Greg changed the name of the website to “Sparkcasting.com” and added a potential market research aspect to the project. This caused some controversy, as seen on this blog post. Then Greg posted on the NYC Podcasting Meetup forum, also causing a bit of controversy.

In any case, I went to the Beercasting that night, and we didn’t start recording till real late. Only Greg, Steve, and myself were left. Greg wanted me to use my recorder, so I recorded the Beercast. We talked on a number of different topics, including the Sparkcasting marketing idea, podcasting, Adam Curry, stats, and male aggression. Toward the end, waitress “Myar” joined the recording. I eventually went to the bathroom and the Beercast ended.

The next day I sent the audio file to Greg, who said he would post it on Sparkcasting.com. But, as it happened, Sparkcasting was never updated. If fact, to this day, the site does not appear to have been updated at all since May of 2005. I think I emailed Greg a few times, but eventually I forgot about the whole thing.

Then, at the Podcasting Expo in Ontario, California, in September 2006, who should I meet at the bar at the Marriott but Greg! It was good to see him again, and he said he was working on some new stuff. I mentioned the recording to him and he said I could go ahead and post it.

I’m still not sure what happened with the whole Sparkcasting thing, but in any case, here is the complete, unedited “Forgotten Beercast” from that long ago day…

Notes from Station Unlimited release, December 2005:

“The Audio Field Trip” is a feature on The Overnightscape where I go out into the world and record various adventures and activities. Most of these are edited and played in their entirety on the show – but two of them are special cases. The first one is “The Audio Field Trip #1″, which I was only able to play a very little bit of on The Overnightscape #20 (7/24/03). This is the complete recording.

On this trip, I go on “The Iselin Run”, driving down to my storage unit in Iselin, NJ. This full audio was played for a while in 2003 on the Bluffcosm “live stream”, and was then released as one of the “Second Anniversary Bonus Releases” back on March 27, 2005. This release has much better audio quality.

Notes from Station Unlimited release, July 2007:

Originally released on Bluffcosm.com in February 2001. Original Description: A Computerized Radio Show on the Road! Join Frank, Pete, and Nick on their zany journey. Features include “Fun with Walky-Talkies”, “Foods from The East”, “The Killer Bag”, interviews, wacky conversions, and more!

7/4/07 – I re-listened to this, and I have to say it’s an awesome recording. During the show I mention how I intended to do more episodes on a regular basis – but that never happened, unfortunately. There is #2, from 2003, which I will release at some point… Also, I realized that the end of this episode is a lot like the ending of the final episode of The Sopranos! We are in a restaurant and the tape ends abruptly with no warning!
