Check out this great episode of Republic of Avalon Radio, from Newfoundland, Canada with Jim Fidler…

This Time on the ROAR:

Jim talks about his love for and history in radio.  He looks back from his first transister radio, as a very wee lad, up until the present.  He also shows ham radio in action as well as taking you for a spin through the 41 meter shortwave band and the AM broadcast band. He also mentions the alternative search engine, startpage.com, the internet archive site at archive.org and gives a tip of the hat to his friend and fellow ?caster, Frank Nora at onsug.com.

Big thanks to Bill and Zac of the Random Access Thought, a regular part of This week in Amateur Radio, for their new ROAR station ID.  Brilliant stuff!  Mother Radio on the ROAR!  Who’d a’thunk it?

If you’re interested in radio, ham radio most specifically, tune into this one!

Music this time:

Our intro and extro music by Jim Fidler.

Best listened to on headphones.  -  “Radio gaga?”  Well, perhaps a wee bit…

A song by BlueTom, Luke Stephensen, Dan (TubeDreamer), Jerry Collins (GTRman4040) & Gavin (jamerson), released 12/23/06 on MyVirtualBand.com

MyVirtualBand.com was a website that began in late 2004 and closed in early 2007. On the site, musicians collaborated to create songs by uploading and downloading audio tracks. All the audio tracks on the site were released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license, which means that you can do pretty much what you want with the audio as long as you give credit to those who created it. There were 113 “featured songs” on the site, and a much greater number of songs “in progress”. Even though the site has shut down, the music from the site is still under the same license – which allows the songs to be re-released here in The Overnightscape Underground!

Lyrics: I’m going to head out, on this lonely road and leave my woes in the dust. / I’m gonna get out, on the lonely road, leave my troubles and the fuss / All the heartache, I’ll leave it all behind. // I’m going to start out on this life again, leave my failures in the past. / I’m going to stand up with some confidence, this time it will last.
All the places, to start this life again, / I’m going to start out on this life again, leave my failures in the past. // Well I’m moving right along in life. / I’m moving right along in life. // Well I’m moving right along in life. / I’m moving right along in life.
