Tape Land 64 – Little Frankie Nora – Bumper Tape Galaxy Reel (1987)

55:12 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I will be presenting the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.
In 1987, at age 19, I set up a rudimentary recording studio in my parents’ basement. I created six albums of weird music as “Little Frankie Nora†(previously released on Tape Land).
The studio consisted of a tape deck, a tape recorder, a mixer, a microphone, an old black-and-white TV set, and a Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. My method of recording was to record to tape, then play along to that tape to the other recorder, allowing for a kind of rudimentary multitrack recording.
“Bumper Tape Galaxy Reel†is one of those temporary “bumper†tapes – with a bunch of song fragments and pieces – along with some material never heard on the main “albumsâ€. It’s very interesting to listen to.
At one point on the tape (23:54), I say “Galaxy Reel, stand byâ€. As I recall, Galaxy Reel was a collection of my old Super 8mm animated movies, which was part of a compilation video I released. I think this was the music I played in the background of the silent films. But the music also became part of a tape called “Shatter Cider†or “Shatter Cider Suite†(available in the archive).
