The Shambleshow #79: The 38th Birthday Shambleshow (1/31/13)

57:52 – Temperature drop, a Shambleshow is in order for today, feeling like a completely different person, driver’s license renewal, orange Fanta, cold!, starting your car by remote, old VHS tapes good for audio material, Don’t Trust the B____ in Apt. 23 cancelled, networks not giving shows a chance, scanning PDFs, my stupid van doors, Blockbuster closing, audio of final trip to Blockbuster, American Reunion, when DVDs first came out, Four Seasons, watching a movie over and over again, Replay by Ken Grimwood, reading a book over and over again, doors won’t open, barbecue sauce on my recorder, clichés about aging, if I could go back to the past. Recorded 1/30/13. Opening theme song: Simple Pleasures (Henry Homesweet, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 England & Wales). Closing theme taken from Street Piano Medley (August Molinari, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike, 1907).

  1. I read Replay last year – not a re-readable for me, but enjoyable. Have you read Richard Matheson’s Somewhere in Time? That’s one I’ve read it several times, also love the movie and soundtrack. My wife and I were just getting into Apartment 23 too – it seemed to be funnier this season than last. I have some old journals but never feel the urge to read them or preserve them digitally. I think several years ago I concluded that I wasn’t a “looking back” type and stopped keeping things and recording memories, trying to live in the present or something. I miss videostores. That Blockbuster recording made me nostalgic for them. Watched & enjoyed ‘Everything Must Go’ this weekend before hearing this. Liked ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ and ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story’ too.

What kind of recorder do you have?

I adored your recent Falling Cow episode – late 90’s were the time of my life, so I hope you post more from that time period.
