  1. Another occupation associated with sleeve garters is piano player, especially those who work in saloons.

You mention Uncle Fletcher’s selective hearing in relation to Vic, but Vic doesn’t really speak as loudly and distinctly as Rush or Sade, so some of that mis-hearing could be real instead of faked.

Funniest thing I could make out about this episode was the guy getting his head caught in the suitcase. I couldn’t really understand how the other one got wrapped up in his own tie, but I did have a co-worker once who was shredding papers and got his necktie caught in the shredder — and this was before they had the safety features they have today. He survived, but every Halloween thereafter, someone at work would dress up like him, with a shredded necktie.

  2. I almost didn’t listen to Vic and Sade because of mealy mouth Vic, but I got over it.

  3. By the way Chief, how long you been listening to Vic and Sade? How did you find the show?

  4. I’ve been collecting OTR for a pretty good while now, starting with cassettes from Radio Spirits and the like. Then I figured out that audio files (.mp3) from various sources on the Internet was the way to go, both storage-wise and price-wise. I have about 25,000 episodes of various shows, concentrating mainly on comedies, detectives and juvenile adventure shows. (I have about 700 episodes of Fibber & Molly, and about 600 Jack Benny’s, for instance.) About a decade ago I developed my own program to select shows by proximity to current date and put them in a playlist for an Internet radio station using a now-obsolete program called Radio Destiny Broadcaster, which I would simulcast to my own house and neighborhood using a low-power AM transmitter on an unused frequency. A few years ago Vic and Sade episodes started popping up in my playlist. I think I must have downloaded them from someone who copied them from you, since they had the openings and commercials removed, but I never really got into V&S much until I found you and your site(s) on Twitter, while looking around for follows with similar interests.

  5. Do you enjoy ‘Speed Gibson’?

  6. Yes, Speed Gibson, Hop Harrigan, Captain Midnight and the like. Also the juvenile westerns like Cisco Kid and Wild Bill Hickok. I’m glad you reminded me of Speed Gibson. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard that one, and from what I recall the sound quality is excellent, so I need to put it back in the rotation and enjoy it all over again.
