Glass Parameters (3-20-12)

4:38:57 – New from Falling Cow Productions, Glass Parameters is a compendium of old-time radio shows with a science fiction (for the most part) theme. Also featured are several songs recorded in the first half of the 20th century, a considerable amount of talky-talk from me (this is Shambles typing this, so I’m the me I mean), and perhaps another treat or two in here somewhere. And now the show notes:

(Nick Lucas, 1925), The Twilight Zone and other topics, clip from Attack of the Monsters (1969), DVD box sets of public domain films and other topics, Encountering New Race (Planet Man, 1950), where to find more Planet Man, Shine On Harvest Moon (The Southerners, 1930), preservation of pop culture and other topics, The Time Machine (Escape, 5/9/48), a brief word from Jackie, Sugar Lump (The Victor Military Band, 1914), The Time Machine and other topics, Queen of Space (Space Patrol, 11/15/52), rain, Love Me Tonight (Annette Hanshaw, 1929), stories in multiple forms of media and other topics, Meet John Smith, John (Quiet Please, 10/3/48), Glass Parameters Outro, Destination K.C. Jacob’s World Ep. 1: Dine-In Theater (3/18/12)

27:30 – Recorded March 2 & March 9, 2012.

Everyone’s favorite 7-year-old writer & composer now makes his debut as a podcaster after he & his dad leave the AMC Dine-In Theater at Essex Green in West Orange, New Jersey to see “The Lorax.” Jacob gives his review of it, plus two other movies he’s seen recently, “Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace” in 3-D and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” then Jacob talks about the favorite parts of his six favorite movies: “Little Shop of Horrors,” “The Incredibles,” “The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie,” “Big Top Pee-Wee,” “Spaceballs,” “The Smurfs,” then finally he reviews the animated short, “Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace.”

(And yes, he wrote the theme song!)

Blind Duncan’s Blues, Chapter 4: Ziploc and Velcro (3-17-12)

10:13 – Blind Duncan’s Blues by Arthur Jaz (aka Shambles)
This is my first novel, Blind Duncan’s Blues, which I completed in 2004 and am now releasing here upon an unsuspecting public. Blind Duncan’s Blues is a novel consisting of interrelated short stories about a boy named Duncan Pierce. It covers various incidents in Duncan’s life, ranging from the age of eighteen months through about eleven years. There are eighteen chapters in all, which will be released sporadically on Onsug.com. Read by the author.

There are certain autobiographical elements to this book, but they mainly consist of general impressions of what it was like to be a child in the early 1980s in Illinois. I never had an older brother who made me eat cat food; my parents had a much happier and stronger marriage than Duncan’s own folks; none of my teachers ever made me wear a dunce cap. The situations that arise for Duncan from being in a large family (as well as a dysfunctional one) I had to either steal from other people’s experiences or fictionalize entirely.

However, I did start writing stories at an early age, and I did play Santa Claus one year in the Christmas program. Most of the rest is fictionalized.

I am currently working on a sequel, Bentleyville Tigers, which will be completed one of these days.
