Tape Land 91 – ABM on News Radio (11/7/86)

47:29 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I taped 1010 WINS news radio on November 7, 1986, hoping to catch the story about ABM magazine. For some reason, I thought I had missed the story, and it wasn’t till several years later that I discovered that I had actually gotten the audio. This is the full audio of that recording – 47 minutes of 1010 WINS from 1986 – very interesting to listen to from a historic perspective. Toward the end of the tape, I break in a few times, overdubbing some audio.

That’s Mike in the interview – they mistakenly call him “Frank”.

Tape Land 90 – The Severe Repair Tape #1 (12/31/88-1/1/89)

1:25:12 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

While “Severe Repair” (meaning something like “extreme travel”) eventually became the name of a science fiction story, it started off as the proposed name of a band project which never happened, and then, as heard on this tape, as an idea for a kind of audio magazine on cassette (which also never happened). Starting on New Year’s Eve 1988, and continuing into New Year’s Day 1989, this tape has a wide range of content, and is a really cool re-discovery for me (as I have little-to-no memory of recording it). –Frank Edward Nora, 4/5/19

Notes: The Severe Repair Tape #1, 12/31/88, Parsippany K-Mart parking lot, driving, childhood tape recorder plans, New Year’s Eve plans, random phrases, weird noises, editing idea, eating popcorn and screams, interactive audio publication, In the Attic 2, Severe Repair audio magazine idea (#1 – God’s Ass, #2 – Freon George Maniac Mania, , #3 – That Street Sign You Saw When You Were, #4 – Reflector Time For Now Orange Points of Antenna Beam Forever), back home, weird singing and whistling, noise I make in the shower, the patio, laundry, Mickey Mouse visor, Severe Repair – The Nomadi Sonic Magazine, the drawer, setting up a recording center in what had been Nomadibasement, anything’s possible with computers, TI-99/4A programs, bag of random stuff, quicklime, Atari glitching, milk box full of stuff, New Year’s Eve TV broadcast, Zone Code #2, 11:53:27 PM, Song: From Eight To Nine, 1/1/89, noises, synthesizer, walking down a highway at night, painted white metal, Do-Re-Mi, noises, weird singing, dialing the time, the ABM office answering machine, shall we go outside, light pollution, kind of a strange time, caffeine hallucinate scarecrow alive, my NYC apartment, walking to NYU, pizza, Gemstoned, film school, buying candy, Houston Street, get well balloons, motivation, up on a soapbox, mouth noises, skin noises, the boiler room, darts, piano, getting ready to go to Long Island, MTV News.
