Tape Land 81 – Thoughts & Rain (July 2003)

1:53:12 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

I made this tape to record my thoughts on the status of my creative projects, and to come up with plans for the future. This was just a few months after I started The Overnightscape in 2003. My ideas were all over the place and quite unrealistic, but somehow, all these years later (February 2019 now), it’s all kind of worked out…

[4:26 PM, Thursday, July 10, 2003], going on a trip to storage, The Master Cleanser, suspended Obliviana, got laid off from my job, plans for the future, Fonosta Device, massively multiplayer online role-playing games, MUDs, Garden State Parkway toll plaza, Dashic Deeds, bring Obliviana back?, cult, creative projects, Zope, new batteries, Bob Grant, Iselin, Bluffcosm, Severe Repair, arrived at storage, release the waste, accumulating junk, Toys “R” Us, The Overnightscape, Blufftoons, Thinkfang, New Fonjo, Internet radio station, new travel weathervanes, [Monday, July 14, 2003, 1:26 PM], thoughts, passions, Obliviana, trying to do something innovative and different, science fiction writing, a new way of playing with the world around you, 2-XL, the audio entertainment factor, 209, Forge of Wander, game system with entertainment, the urge for control, look at the world in a different way, creating entertainment, phone calls, self-publishing, total control, core passions, life goals, a new kind of radio, looking for a new direction, going over it again, Obliviana Super Occult Amusement, eight subdivisions, the keystone idea, a simple addictive little game which could scale up into the complete system, Interweb, [Tuesday, July 22, 2003, afternoon], walking outside in the rain, sitting in my Jeep in the parking lot during a thunderstorm, smoking a cigar, thunder, Office Space, Bluffcosm.com streaming live, Super Objects, Jean Shepherd, radio stations selling their own products, the idea is sound, watching the birds, blue animals, let’s go inside, listen to the stream.

DS12: Commercial Break (1/31/19)

58:08 – Doc Sleaze recalls his youth via the medium of TV commercials, providing a commentary on a series of UK television ad breaks from 1967 to 1982.  We chart the development of the TV ad, the changing product mixes advertised on TV and even encounter the odd celebrity endorsement.  Dudley Moore assures us that size isn’t everything while Arthur Fowler from ‘East Enders’ tries to convince us that that Britain’s most reviled car is actually cutting edge.  Talking chimps, Martian robots and many more bizarre spokespeople try to sell us stuff they just wouldn’t advertise on TV any more.
