Tape Land 64 – Little Frankie Nora – Bumper Tape Galaxy Reel (1987)

55:12 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I will be presenting the audio of a cassette tape from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to digitize more of my archives.

In 1987, at age 19, I set up a rudimentary recording studio in my parents’ basement. I created six albums of weird music as “Little Frankie Nora” (previously released on Tape Land).

The studio consisted of a tape deck, a tape recorder, a mixer, a microphone, an old black-and-white TV set, and a Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. My method of recording was to record to tape, then play along to that tape to the other recorder, allowing for a kind of rudimentary multitrack recording.

“Bumper Tape Galaxy Reel” is one of those temporary “bumper” tapes – with a bunch of song fragments and pieces – along with some material never heard on the main “albums”. It’s very interesting to listen to.

At one point on the tape (23:54), I say “Galaxy Reel, stand by”. As I recall, Galaxy Reel was a collection of my old Super 8mm animated movies, which was part of a compilation video I released. I think this was the music I played in the background of the silent films. But the music also became part of a tape called “Shatter Cider” or “Shatter Cider Suite” (available in the archive).

Gunkcast 51: Welcome To The Meltdown (September 2017 – June 2018)

1:02:58 – People have said they spotted something approaching… can it be true? Can a certain podcast be descending back to Earth from the deepest regions of space? Yes, here it is folks… the return of Gunkcast for 2018! After a very extended hiatus we are back with the long-promised episode, which features an even more long-promised album that has finally been released. Yes, we have decided to treat you (our dedicated fans) to an in-depth dissection of each of the songs from this new album & we are dedicating this episode to the 1st track: “Welcome To The Meltdown.”

And as if this couldn’t get any better, we also have jam packed this episode with all sorts of bonus content! We do our signature Gunkcast review of several pop culture movies, as well as a certain exclusive You Tube Red series (& take special note to stick around for a possible hidden ending featuring a certain very long overdue review)! Finally, we have recently unearthed some forgotten recordings which were done several years ago for an intended collaboration with Jimbo… we offer these in special tribute to his memory here. All of this plus our trademark crazy comedy and rocking soundtrack (provided by Smidge & the band)… what more could you possibly want from a podcast? Cheers!

Also, please share the love and listen to some of our favorite podcasts at: Onsug, Static Radio, Insignificast, Letter Seventeen, & The Hustle!

DS7: Taking Back the Streets (From the Street Entertainers) (6/29/18)

33:15 – Desperate to put out a new episode, Doc Sleaze raids his blog for some recent musings on pop culture.  Pausing only for an altercation with a living statue, our fearless host ponders the problems of the rogue paperwork generated by maverick cops before dissecting so called ‘must see TV’ and posing the question of whether Netflix is the true descendent of Universal Pictures B Movie unit?  Finally, having declared that modern pop culture is rubbish, we explore some unpopular opinions on supposed pop culture classics.  Guest appearances from Clint Eastwood, Boris Karloff, John Carradine and Lon Chaney Jr.
