1:01:39 – A compilation of some of my favorite clips from my favorite old-time radio program, Lum and Abner. First of four audio releases. I’m hoping these clips will give you a good idea who the varied characters are. Keep in mind that most of these characters were played by either Chester Lauck (Lum Edwards, Grandpappy Spears, Cedric Weehunt) or Norris Goff (Abner Peabody, Dick Huddleston, Squire Skimp, Mousey Gray, Ulysses S. Quincy, Doc Miller). These clips are taken from various storylines from the run of the series, but hopefully I’ve included enough that they can be easily followed outside of context of the episodes. The “two old fellows†manage the Jotem Down Store for most of the series, with the occasional side venture into some other business, including a movie theater, a circus, a bank, and a radio station, among many others. This collection just barely scratches the surface of this top-notch old-time radio program, which aired from 1933 to 1954. Oh, what a beauty day!
