Tape Land 187 – Obliviana Notes (12/1/02) [released 7/21/25]

1:03:07 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic material from my personal archives.

In December 2002 I was lost in the weeds of a multitude of ideas surrounding my projects Obliviana Super Occult Amusement and Bluffcosm.com. Amazingly, a few months later, I dropped most of these ideas and started my show The Overnightscape – which is still going today, 22 years later!

The Midnight Citizen 295: “Get a Real Job”

Join Mike outside on a Friday night.

Hang out on the makeshift back patio with me while I reminisce on morning TV and what happened after that on those long hot days in the summer when you had nothing to do and all day to do it.

Anyway, I was feeling real nostalgic today when I took a small break to take in a double feature — something I don’t get to do much these days when I’m driving for dollars and looking for more stable work.

Later on in the night, I speculate on the identify of the mystery person who left an odd trinket on my podcast patio. My own personal Boo Radley? Or just some strange coincidence, as the artifact is, indeed, the facsimile of an old-time radio microphone.

Also…an encounter I had this week with a real bad sport, and reviews-of-sorts of my Al Pacino double feature: Michael Mann’s The Insider (1999) and Sidney Lumet’s Serpico from 1973.

????Listen on Spotify and Apple Music: ?https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast…?

…and be sure to join the ?Facebook page? and find me on ?Instagram?! “They say if you love a man’s garden, you gotta love the man.”

Onsug Saloon 1 (7/18/25)

1:18:28 – Onsug Saloon continues from last week’s experimental show Onsug Radio Shuffle Mode. It’s in the same format, with random 209 second clips from the entire Onsug Radio archive, shuffled, each introduced by a computer voice. The first clip is chosen from the shuffle, so things get off to a good start, but the rest are completely random, from a pool of over 259,000 clips. This time, the set of clips are updated to include the complete archive up to last month, June 2025. Like last time, I think it’s better not to include show titles, as the titles are spoken in the audio. But I will include a reference list which will allow you to find the shows in need be. I really like how this one turned out, just like last time, and I intend to continue with this experiment.

Onsug Saloon was originally a short-lived project that began ten years ago, in July 2015. It was a chat room where random Onsug Radio shows would be played on a live stream, 24/7. The name came to mind, and I thought it would be a great name for this new project.

Onsug Radio Shuffle Mode 1 (7/12/25)

1:18:28 – Onsug Radio Shuffle Mode is an experimental continuation of previous project Onsug Radio Previews, from 2023–2024. That one had a semi-random, but curated, set of show clips, each 209 seconds long (3:29), and each introduced by a computer voice.

This new concept uses the same set of clips (the full Onsug archive up to Sep. 2023), but has a different computer voice, talking faster and just saying the show title. It’s also fully random (except for a first clip, which is chosen from random options).

I like how this one turned out, and I’m planning on doing more episodes in the near future. It’s a great way to listen to Onsug Radio, getting a cross-section of everything within the archive.

(Since the show titles and clip numbers are spoken in the audio, I won’t include them here. But the one without a title, due to a tag issue, was The Meanderer (7/21/21).)
