A rock song by Jerry Collins (GTRman4040) and Bobshock, released 11/27/05 on MyVirtualBand.com

MyVirtualBand.com was a website that began in late 2004 and closed in early 2007. On the site, musicians collaborated to create songs by uploading and downloading audio tracks. All the audio tracks on the site were released under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license, which means that you can do pretty much what you want with the audio as long as you give credit to those who created it. There were 113 “featured songs” on the site, and a much greater number of songs “in progress”. Even though the site has shut down, the music from the site is still under the same license – which allows the songs to be re-released here in The Overnightscape Underground!

Lyrics: Your going through a phase your lost in a zone, You want the sun rays and its time to go home, It didnt really hit you its like a cartoon, Out in the market with your brand new goon / I grow old in age as you follow that dream, Living in rage with your boyfriend schemes, Im tired of the lies that you put me through, I wont even bother with unfaithful you / A month to remember but its not a good thing, Remember November is the song to sing, You always need change a new distraction, Your choice is so lame and you blow attraction / Resistance is futile nothing left to say, Flirting with the locals one wrong day, November with a punch inspired this tune, Remembering the month a shadowing gloom / I say that your too loose you say that your adored, Nothing but the truth your choice to explore, Far from November memories of the past, Into December and I only look back / I grow old in age as you follow that dream, Living in rage with your boyfriend schemes, Im tired of the lies that you put me through, I wont even bother with unfaithful you / A month to remember but its not a good thing, Remember November is the song to sing, You always need change a new distraction, Your choice is so lame and you blow attraction / Far from November memories of the past, Into December and I only look back, And since its December theres nothing left for you, lost in November when somebody got screwed

A week after the first Beta Episode, I recorded another show (Beta #2), with the idea that it could potentially become the first real show – but this one as well fell short in several ways. It was not till the following week, on March 27, 2003, that the first official episode was recorded and released!

I came up with the idea for The Overnightscape on Thursday, March 13, 2003. I was on my way home from work in NYC, riding the PATH train back to NJ. Here’s exactly what I wrote on my Palm Pilot:

3/13/03 6:54 pm

non-meta half-hour talk show, just me

3/13/03 7:03 pm

the overnightscape
nightscans

I went home, set up my recording system, and started recording the show at around 9:55 PM – less than 3 hours after I wrote down my idea for the show and its name (wow, just think, it could have been called Nightscans…) What I recorded was The Overnightscape Beta #1 – a test show that definitely was not fit for release!

This is the recording, which I originally released back on March 27, 2005 in celebration of the Second Anniversary of The Overnightscape. This release has much better audio quality than the previous release. But remember… it’s really rough and weird and not very good. If you’re a fan of The Overnightscape, though, you might find it interesting to listen to…
