  2. Agreed on death spiral at retail.

    1. company sees sales are down or profits not as high as investors demand
    2. company cuts “fat” at all levels through company
    3. HQ workers now overworked jaded
    4. company moves to all part time at retail, no benefits, less upward opportunity
    5. workers have no incentive to care
    6. customers seek alternative

In the old economy, new retail stores would appear and replace these and then they would follow this process,
    but new technologies are disruptive.

    logistics, shipping, credit cards, internet

    less can do more

but that leaves more without sufficient work

The post WW2 era was a great bubble

but things are returning to the more standard model

1% is rich, 99% are poor

How do we break out of this?

  3. Frank! Just listened to this episode today, and I can’t believe you’re finally elaborating on “Ramp Fiction.” I’ve been thinking about the concept of creating a Universe in audio ever since you told that great Weasel Village Mall story about VR gone wrong on Onsug Central a few years ago, and THIS WEEK, I’ve been working on a story concept myself that I’m trying to relate in audio. So glad you finally gave it a name so I can know what the hell I’m working on. Haha.

You’re right. The original story tellers just TOLD the story, and I think we’ve gotten away from the idea that for a good story to be related, it has to be written, with carefully constructed sentences and subtly placed themes. Why can’t we just tell the story like we’re sitting around a campfire?

Have a great time in California.

  5. Anyone remember Richie Cunningham losing out to the black kid in the Howdy Doody look-alike contest on the first Season of Happy Days?
