The fact that the gas station employees told the guy to stop hanging around there bothering people was kind of a red flag in itself.
And I can’t help but think of it from the opposite perspective: if I was stuck on my own and needed to go just two miles away, somehow I don’t think I’d be going up to a bunch of people I didn’t know and ask them for a ride. I don’t know, there’s something weird about that to me.
