Haha grandma got the Super Soaker (well, that would have been funnier!) Seriously, your reaction to grandma’s dilemma was classic. (BYW, did you know there is a “trilemma” which is triply worse, I suspect… (http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=trilemma)

You are so right about Lum being depressed. He inflates himself so high that he can’t possibly be THAT person; when it does not work out (always) he gets depressed. He also gets depressed over women. He also gets depressed over Squire’s tricks. And eventually, when he and Abner have conflicts, he also gets depressed. And when he goes to jail, too. Ah, he’s a mess.

I believe that calling on the party line is the way Lum and Abner break the 3rd wall and it makes the flashlight thing a real part of the show. The president thing is just a ruse to sell these flashlights, which, no matter the outcome, was a disaster.
I also think you should take my show (at my OTR podcas site) about Lum and Abner and do a commentary on it. You know, the one where I talk about all the bad things about L&A. I think it would be fun to hear you.

Grandma didn’t seem too bothered by the Super Soaker… but yeah, that would have been great for her to get ahold of it. I like to think she would have if she’d felt like it. 😄
Yeah, the party line probably was the most meta part of the show. Thinking of it that way, it’s a shame they stopped doing it later in the series. “Yeah, there ain’t no fire… just wondered if anyone else out there thinks Ben Withers sure-nuff sounds like Uncle Fletcher. I grannies, I keep hearin’ people laughin’ but I can’t see ’em!”
I was going to ask you at one point if I could play the L&A podcast you recorded, so that would be great. I’ll do it in the next Showcase and give you some talky-talk on it. 😎
