Mario Kart wii brilliant, but don’t use the WAGGLE controls. The trick is changing the controller options for using the d pad or even using the classic controller, or even your Wavebird if you still have one. I do and it is ace.
The game has over 16 classic tracks in addition to all the new tracks. Spend some time with the classic control scheme and I think you will likely love this one.

Chad, I did some research, and indeed there is drifting, and drifting to charge boost… great to hear there are options to use older control schemes and controllers…
