When someone is expressing themselves and the recording is legible (the more legible the better), IMO, the show could last 100 hours and I would listen. Your show here is the way all shows should be. There were many pieces of this show that I will remember a long time. I wish all of your shows were done this way.
One of the things I completely understood is the emotional punch from The Wonder Years, which was, by-in-large, a fine show. It’s too bad that every one of the episodes weren’t like this. The second and third season was fantastic but the last few years (IMO) the show went a little goofy.
At one point Wayne becomes human and I always thought that was a mistake. The older sister disappears and that was good – what a pain she was!!
Kevin’s mom rarely got mad at him and that was one of the missing links to the show being perfect. Kevin’s dad was at his best when he, like Wayne, was a big oaf. But there are also some genuine great moments when the dad showed mercy (especially when Wayne did dumb stuff) that are unforgettable.
The guy who played the sister’s boyfriend/husband was “okay” but I don’t think she would have “went” for a guy like that, nor do I think that anyone that smart would have wasted her life doing the things she did – but … who knows.
A bigger (audio) look at The Wonder Years is there for the taking…
Anyway, thanks for making me think this morning. ๐
There was a lot to like about the series

Cheers, Jimbo, thanks for the kind words! I really like the direction RFS is going right now; it feels comfortable.
Yeah, I think a Wonder Years binge-watch is in my near future, and with it definitely some recordings about it. I agree with most of what you said. There was a definite turning point in the Kevin/Wayne relationship, although I didn’t really see it as a negative so much as just a natural changing dynamic. Kevin’s mom was too easy on him, that’s for sure. His dad was one of the best characters on the show because he just seemed like a very real person.
I’ll talk a lot more about the show soon but here’s one of my favorite moments in the series:
Kevin has just treated Winnie like complete and utter crap. (I forget what he did right now. It may be when he told the guys in the locker room he’d gotten farther with Winnie than he had.) He tells his dad about it, trying to make himself look like the good guy. He ends it with “Women, huh?”
Jack says, “Get on your bike… go over there… and apologize.”
Kevin, suddenly looking miserable: “Do you think she’ll forgive me?”
Jack, with an adamant tone just short of disgust: “I wouldn’t.”
Boom. Perfect moment.

Haven’t listened to the whole thing yet but I have a weird connection to that Lemonheads song. I recently did some spring cleaning & uploaded documentation from the time of a memorable first love I return to often on my recordings – https://archive.org/details/Tustin2Fresno. One of the “fitting songs on Laura’s tape” was Into Your Arms. You might like this podcast http://www.keithcourage.com/hamradio/?s=lemonheads – a search for Evan Dando will bring more results.
