Could you clarify exactly where in the New Testament of the bible where it says that followers of Christ should “slaughter” or otherwise kill anyone?
And I have mentioned this before here, but the Old Testament is the law = written for the Jews. There is no Jesus in the Old Testament = no Christians in the Old Testament.
Also, by definition, “religion” is completely incompatible with “Christianity” and Jesus Christ.

Here’s a list from the Old Testament:

Your interpretation has its merits, but I think most Christians still adhere to the Old Testament, and all the stuff on that list.

The Old Testament actually means “the old law/covenant”.
Why would a Christian adhere to the Jewish law?

I do think some Christians quote the Old Testament in order to justify their positions. Are they wrong to do this?
Do you think the Old Testament is completely false? Or do you think it is the word of God, but that these laws just don’t apply to Christians?
If it is the same God, how do you feel about all the violent stuff in the Old Testament? Even if it doesn’t apply to you, doesn’t it make you nervous that the same God you worship approved all of this murder, rape, slavery, etc?

>Are they wrong to do this?
Q1: Not a cop out, but it totally depends on what specifically you are referring to. So without specifics, it’s impossible for me to answer that.
>Do you think the Old Testament is completely false? Or do you think it is the word of God, but that these laws just don’t apply to Christians?
Q2: The Old Testament is completely true. The law is the Jewish Law. Christianity has no law. Christ came to free the slave – to give freedom to those bound to the law.
>If it is the same God, how do you feel about all the violent stuff in the Old Testament? Even if it doesn’t apply to you, doesn’t it make you nervous :
Q3: Definitely the same God. The “violent stuff” – like what, where God wiped out complete groups of people? Well, those “people” weren’t people at all, according to Genesis 6. Even after the flood, there were nephilim. These nephilim were screwied with the DNA and the bloodlines and God was not going to allow Christ to be born with an altered bloodline. So yeah, he obliterated most of these groups (however some are still around buried in the earth and will arise after the rapture). I believe this point you bring up here is probably the most misunderstood part of the bible: ie. How could God kill all these people? Well, they weren’t “people”.
>that the same God you worship approved all of this murder, rape, slavery, etc?
Q4: You will have to be more specific for me to answer that question. However, no, the last thing I am is “nervous” about God.

Frank,
I would highly recommend this link, as a primer and context. Alan Watts is too good not to share.
