Jimbo, you may be right that the two-character episodes are better (on average) than those with three or more, but apparently Paul Rhymer thought something was missing when he was limited to just Vic and Sade, so Rush was added. Then later, when “Vic” was sick, Uncle Fletcher was added, and finally, when Rush went off to war, Russell was added. (I think I got all that right. Correct me if not.)
I almost feel Sade’s presence in this episode, scowling disapprovingly, despite her not being there. So a character can have influence on an episode even when unheard.

Being that you are a relatively new fan, I take it you haven’t run across Dottie Brainfeeble yet (and Leland Richards) – but roughly, you are correct.
However, because of workload, more than anything, is probably why the two characters (only) didn’t work. They each got a full month off each and then another few days here or there.
Sade seems to always be there even when she isn’t there. Just thinking about it, you have brought up a great point. It’s not always the case but Sade is “hovering around” in most of those shows where she isn’t present.

I’ve heard the Dottie Brainfeeble name (who could forget it?) but that’s about it. Don’t remember Leland Richards at all.
Hadn’t thought about the actors’ time off. One-character episodes would be difficult to pull off consistently. I guess you could use the telephone a la Bob Newhart, but that would get old quickly.

Chief, you will be
scared awayshocked when Dottie comes around. It was so paralyzing that I almost quit listening to the show. Luckily, she only hangs around for 6 or 7 episodes and one of the episodes, luckily, is a bona fide gem. How that happened, I’ll never know.Comment by Jimbo — November 1, 2017 @ 3:50 am
