Jimbo

I’m very sad to report that Jimbo passed away last Thursday, November 30, at his home in Georgia.

Working with Dave Duckert and PQ Ribber today, I was able to find an online obituary, and verify the details. It listed his real name, the town he lived in, and his age – all of which matched the information we had. And the date, Nov. 30, was the last we heard from him.

I will have a lot more to say about this, but I wanted leave a quick note to let everyone know.

  1. Not the news any of us wanted to hear, I’m sure. Thanks for letting us know Frank. Is there anything we can do with regards to condolences to his family?

  3. Doc, we don’t have contact info for his family. But we will be doing a tribute show for him soon, which hopefully they may hear.

  7. We were all very saddened to hear this as well, chatted with PQ earlier today. We’re planning a tribute of course but will be glad to add a voice to any other memorial being planned.

  9. A very very very sad day. I will post info on a special Central Tribute thing later today. A rare man walked among us.

  11. Like everyone, I was saddened to hear this news though not shocked inasmuch as Jimbo’s health issues were a regular mention on his shows and because, at times, he simply didn’t sound like he felt all that well.

Still, the passing of a friend always takes us aback when it happens and, lately it seems, it happens far too frequently and so I extend my deepest sympathies to both of Jimbo’s families—his personal family and his ONSUG family.

Jimbo was an enthusiastic supporter and contributor of our show for which we are forever grateful and in turn we happily contributed to his show and, in both cases, hoped to continue to do so.

Unfortunately, Life tends to throw us curve balls sometimes when we’re “sitting dead red” and looking for a pitch we can drive.

    Swing away, Jimbo!

    – J.

  13. Rest in Peace Jimbo. I thank you for the so many hours of entertainment you provided us all and I’m sad we never got together to do the talking Baseball shows you suggested we do together.

  15. I was trying to restore my collection of radio theater (after a catastrophic disk failure) and stumbled upon the shows with Jimbo while searching “Vic & Sade.”

First – sorry to know I missed him. Sounds like we would have hit it off. From his talk about his older brother being a “really old man” I was leery of writing – I’m even older.

I wanted to write to say first that I greatly enjoyed hearing your shows on Vic & Sade, but also to fill in some information that seemed to be missing. Paul Rhymer’s sense of humanity in his comedy was amazing, but he put dark backstories on his characters. With so many of the shows missing, the two published script collections fill in the gap. I had hoped I might be able to fill in some of that material with your audience, but I have no idea if you are still producing. I was worried when I saw the archive.org listings stopped in 2017. Now I know why.

If you might be interested in some more fondness for Rhymer and his creations, I’d love to participate. If not, know that your shows and shared pleasure with the goings on in the little house halfway up on the next block is appreciated.

  16. I hope to resume the series where Jimbo left off, chronologically – been sort of procrastinating, but you should be in touch (i can be found and friended on facebook, or you can join the Overnightscape group, there, or something. Would be happy to have another participant for the merriment!
