  1. Re the Coon-Sanders band that Jean Shepherd’s old man thought was the pinnacle of jazz, the biography of Louis Jordan entitled “Let the Good Times Roll” says of Jordan’s early listening habits: “One of his favorite shows was broadcast from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. on WGN Chicago and featured a white band co-led by drummer Carlton Coon and pianist Joe Sanders. Louis later admitted that in his innocence he thought the group was led by one man nicknamed ‘Coon’ Sanders, and realized this was not so only when Carlton Coon died in 1932.”

Speaking of Jean Shepherd, tomorrow night (Dec. 17) on Fox there will be a live musical version of “A Christmas Story.” Who knows if it’ll be any good, but I’ve set it to record just in case. It’s on from 7 to 10 Eastern.

  2. I might check that out myself. I heard they got two kids who look just like the kids in the movie.

It would be weird without Shep’s narration though.

  3. If it’s not any good (or even if it is) there’s always the original for 24 hours on Christmas Day. I can almost taste the Smiling Duck already.
