DS12: Commercial Break (1/31/19)
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
58:08 – Doc Sleaze recalls his youth via the medium of TV commercials, providing a commentary on a series of UK television ad breaks from 1967 to 1982. We chart the development of the TV ad, the changing product mixes advertised on TV and even encounter the odd celebrity endorsement. Dudley Moore assures us that size isn’t everything while Arthur Fowler from ‘East Enders’ tries to convince us that that Britain’s most reviled car is actually cutting edge. Talking chimps, Martian robots and many more bizarre spokespeople try to sell us stuff they just wouldn’t advertise on TV any more.
