“Plowed” by Sponge was on the U.S. Modern Rock and U.S. Mainstream Rock charts in 1995. I remember radio stations played it frequently at the time.
Lantern superheroes: I know the Green Lantern movie is coming out, but I have no idea what his superpower is. Does he shine light on things? Seriously, what does he do?
Most modern art seems to be a scam. I feel like modern art = “get rich quick.” Draw a line on a canvas or take a video of someone eating a sandwich or drop a mint on the ground…and all of a sudden you’re a world-reknown artist! I don’t get it. You’re right, it’s ponderous. The floating tape sounds cool though.
When I was in art classes in college, one of the things I dreaded was putting my work up in front of the class and having to “explain” it. I can draw very well, but I had no interest in explaining it. Why do I have to explain something visual?? Just look at it! A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Some of my classmates were horrendous artists, but were excellent at babbling about what the red circle represents and what the yellow square signifies. I actually dreaded listening to them B.S. for ten minutes about a blob of paint, too.
I think everyone should listen to your commentary about modern art and the art world. Seriously, it’s spot-on. Hang garbage up on the wall and if people get it, they’re stupid. And people actually fall for that. Why??

Yes, a producer of a stage show is simply a person who puts up money to make the show happen. Renting the theater space is extremely expensive and there are many workers behind the scenes who need to get paid (lighting people, sound people, stage managers, electricians, etc.). It’s insane how many workers are hired to put on a simple “one-person” Broadway show. Of course, the producers hope the show will be successful and very profitable.
In episode 135 of the Paunch Stevenson Show, Greg and I talked about seeing Kevin Smith’s one-man show at Carnegie Hall. It was horrible and we left two hours in, which was only the halfway point! He kept rambling on and on about taking dumps and doing drugs. I had gotten the tickets for free, so we gave it a shot, but it was torture.
You’re also right about sports being a frivolous luxury. Why do professional athletes earn millions of dollars a year for playing with a ball, while other people who work more meaningful jobs struggle just to pay the rent and support their families?

Gnomeo and Juliet is fun however it’s a disposable animation for people with ADD and lovers of garden ornaments. -Luke Robey
