Chicken Over Veggies

Recently a new show was submitted for inclusion on The Overnightscape Underground – “Chicken Over Veggies” starring Komp, Chescu, and Mas Borracho. I listened to the first episode, and though it was a difficult decision, I chose not to add the show to the channel.

This experiment of ours, with multiple hosts doing shows here on Onsug, has been going since about September 2009. I never planned any of it – it just sort of happened, and I welcomed it. Now, there are a lot of shows on the channel, all very different, yet all very similar in some undefinable way.

So this is the first time I’ve had to reject a show. I knew it had to happen eventually, and it feels awful to be a kind of “censor”. But I feel strongly that The Overnightscape Underground has a tone, an identity, a feel – that while kind of impossible to pin down, is there. So though it’s uncomfortable for me, I do have to start to define the boundaries of tone and content.

Here’s a link to the show in question so you can check it out:

And here’s the show’s site with the second episode already up:

I do think it’s a good show, but at the same time, for me the level of “offensive” content is so high that I am not comfortable with it being on the channel – it has a very different feel than the other shows here.

Let me know what you think… did I make the right choice?

  1. It’s tough being an editor. Your like J. Jonah Jameson now. Parker!!!

  2. I feel like I can say “Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck” on onsug.com as long as it adds to a story. I feel that I can use any word or talk about any topic. The show you don’t want to add just doesn’t fit. It seems like the folks in the “Chicken Over Veggies” show are bound by the profanity they use rather than being set free by it.

  3. Rejecting a show that clearly doesn’t fit here is not a bad thing. It affirms the work that is from, and for this community. It just doesn’t fit our format. You’ll never hear Zepplin on a country station.

And now back to your friend Hop-along Howie …

  4. good choice, not sure i would listen to this sort of stuff. i gave it 5 minutes and got bored with the school boy humour. like the previous guy said, swear when you feel you need to, not because you can

  5. i actually take it as a badge of honor, although we honestly don’t
go out to be shocking. it’s just about having real conversations.
anyhows, thanks for the early reviews i quoted you guys.
It’s all about honesty with us over @ COV.

if you delve into some of the other episodes
you can see the f word is not necessarily
our crutch, but it’s a beautiful word.
    if not, c’est la vie!

    all the best!
