The Overnightscape Underground – April 2009 – Track 22

Before the dawn of The Overnightscape in 2003, I used to make random recordings in NYC all the time. The idea was to capture interesting audio that I could use in my Internet radio project at the time, Bluffcosm.com.
The “City Cassette” series contains these recordings, one cassette per release. They will not be in chronological order, because I don’t think it matters that much.
This first cassette in the series contains a lot of interesting stuff, including some of my thoughts on the future of Internet radio, lots of sounds from the subway system, a visit to an old place of work, and a whole lot more. A good portion of it is “ambient sound”, rather than me talking.
Here is how the tape is labeled: Side A: “1/31/01 – 2/14/01 NYC Audio”. Side B: “2/16/01 – 2/22/01 NYC D&A Snow / Subway Crowd”

The drummers remind me of when I saw Stomp live in September 2004. They are amazing musicians and performers!
How and where did you release your audio material in 2001? It must have been much more difficult than today. So interesting to hear your ideas from 8 years ago!
I know you released Severe Repair online. Can a printed copy still be purchased? I don’t do so well reading long docs/books online 🙁 I’m so old school and need print in my hand. Enjoyed the excerpt you read during The ONSUG day 1.

Back in 2001, I was releasing audio on MP3.com and also Live365.com. It was a whole different situation back then, and even to have 24 hours of material online was a big deal.
With Severe Repair, I made a printed version available a long time ago on CafePress.com, but it was the older version that only conatined a fraction of the current “Broken Text” version. Right now there is no printed version available… just the HTML and text versions online at http://severerepair.com
