Tape Land 108 – Driven (FN 3/19/10)

35:37 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic recording from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to release more of my archives.

Here’s an episode from 2010 I decided not to release at the time, because it got kind of intense with the topics I was exploring. But hearing it now (Aug. 2019), I think it’s worth releasing from the “vault”.

This episode is from a transitional time in Onsug history, when I continued doing my show under a variety of different names (in this case, “FN”), before finally returning to “The Overnightscape” in May 2011.

Notes: Relaxed phase, great comments, my new MP3 player, Alanis Morissette, American Idol, conspiracy theories, the changing face of Times Square, the entertainment industry, reincarnation, wrath, “drivers”, kindness, cruelty, a pecking order, put this in the vault.

Tape Land will go on hiatus for the next few weeks, but should be back sometime in September.

Tape Land 107 – Moodbruck: Nightweek Notes (9/22/11)

33:31 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic recording from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to release more of my archives.

I used to record audio notes for my various ideas under the name “Moodbruck”. In this recording, from 2011, I’m talking about Nightweek, an project for organizing Onsug that I wound up canceling and never moved forward with. But it was another step that eventually led to the current Onsug Radio archive.

Notes: Nightweek, fractal snapshots, the Foon concept, bustle in the hedgerow, a Smurf in your pocket, creative listening, Nightweek logo, totems, casks, humility, The Onsug, bring Nightweek to a long walk in the city, underlaps, Nightweeking, a little radio world in your pocket, too freaking hot out here.

Tape Land 106 – GE C-30 Answering Machine Tape (circa 1990s)

11:50 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic recording from my collection. It’s a way to help motivate me to release more of my archives.

Inspired by “The Audio Kitchen” (a show on WFMU), I spent a few years (around 2001) buying used answering machines with cassettes in them, at flea markets and thrift shops, hoping to find interesting audio for my Internet radio project, Bluffcosm.

This tape in unlabeled, but I probably got it around 2000-2001, and the recordings are most likely from sometime in the 1990s. I bleeped out phone numbers and last names.

Notes: Deals in the hopper, managerial promotion, leaky roof, grab a bite to eat, shoot for 7:30, perfecto, backyard was flooded, what time’s your flight, Sandy sent me an electronic card, wild weekend, The Hills, thanks for being a friend, Long Branch Half Marathon, Interfaith Hospitality Network, orgy of food, keep it under your hat, busy organizing, still a bit drunk, worst taxi driver, how’s your new job going.
