DS12: Commercial Break (1/31/19)

58:08 – Doc Sleaze recalls his youth via the medium of TV commercials, providing a commentary on a series of UK television ad breaks from 1967 to 1982.  We chart the development of the TV ad, the changing product mixes advertised on TV and even encounter the odd celebrity endorsement.  Dudley Moore assures us that size isn’t everything while Arthur Fowler from ‘East Enders’ tries to convince us that that Britain’s most reviled car is actually cutting edge.  Talking chimps, Martian robots and many more bizarre spokespeople try to sell us stuff they just wouldn’t advertise on TV any more.

DS11: A Merry Christmas and Custard! (12/23/18)

44:40 – After being visited by three ghosts, Doc Sleaze learns to embrace the true spirit of Christmas.  Hearing that a Christmas pudding containing £80 in silver sixpenny pieces has been stolen from a local orphanage, the Doc sets off in pursuit of the thieves, braving the perils of mince pie throwing carol singers, a suicide bomber Santa and nearly drowns in custard.  This synopsis probably bears no relationship to the actual content of this broadcast – except that it is about Christmas and carols are sung.  Merry Christmas (with custard).

DS10: Ghost Stories (11/30/18)

45:24 – As the nights draw in and Winter approaches, we gather around a crackling fire to recount (and sometimes debunk) tales of ghost ships, while the master of the ghost story, Algernon Blackwood himself, joins us to tell his chilling tale ‘Lock Your Door’.  Why do ghost stories continue to fascinate us?  Does everyone have a ghostly experience to share?  Where are the modern ghost stories of the haunted world wide web?

(Apologies for the quality of the Algernon Blackwood segments – they are audio from a 1949 short film, now in the public domain).

DS9: The Wrestling (10/25/18)

49:20:  British wrestling remembered.  The Doc recalls the halcyon days of ‘The Wrestling’ in the 1970s.  Kent Walton, Dickie Davies and ‘World of Sport’.  Every Saturday at Four O’clock – The Wrestling.  Mick McManus, Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and Jackie ‘Mr TV’ Pallo remembered.  Les Kellett – hardest man in British wrestling.  Brian Glover and Pat ‘Bomber’ Roach: from wrestling ring to film and TV.  Was it all fixed?  Audience participation.  WoS – British TV wrestling reborn?  The immortal Kent Walton signs us off.

Schlock Express: Psychedelic Heist (9/30/18)

28:57:  Travel back in time with the Schlock Express to examine a trio of swinging sixties psychedelic heist movies.  Watch silver fox Stewart Grainger battle killer nuns as he tries to get to the bottom of ‘The Trygon Factor’!  Thrill to the psychedelic antics of Italian anti-hero Diabolik as he robs the establishment and keeps it all in his far out hideout!  Finally, gasp as middle aged drop out ‘Duffy’ conspires to commit a sea going groovy bullion heist!  Along the way, we’ll ruminate over how the swinging sixties mythologised itself and the morality of movie heroes!
