Tape Land 162 – Weasels 89 (2/4/89)

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Tape_Land_Video_300.jpg

49:57 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic material from my personal archives.

This episode is part of a sub-project within Tape Land called “Video Phase 2022”. I recently began transferring a ton of old video tapes to digital, and have been posting selections to YouTube. Here, I’ll be releasing the audio tracks of these videos, as well as linking you to the YouTube videos, and The Internet Archive.

Weasels 89 (2/4/89)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TEr695vOjA

Saturday, February 4, 1989, Frank, Peter, and John driving down Route 46 in Pine Brook, NJ, heading to Drew University in Madison, NJ, The Dramatic Admission of Friendship, Dunkin’ Donuts, arrived at Drew, checking the mailbox, game room, handing out magazines, comedy show, Physics Phil arrives, Tullio confronts Frank about his filming, ping pong, chatting with Ella, Zoning, visiting Bryan in his dorm room, playing a Marvel Superheroes role-playing game, heading out.

I attended Drew for two years, but transferred to NYU in 1987. John was a friend of Peter’s, but I don’t remember him, beyond this video. This was the last (or near the last) time I ever saw Physics Phil. I was able to determine the exact date by finding the comedy show listed in an archive of the student newspaper. I released the middle portion of this in audio on Bluffcosm.com in 2000, as “Ping Pong (Early 1989)”. This is perhaps the earliest piece of media where The Three Weasels (Frank, Peter, and Bryan) appear together (thought there is a short video clip circa September 1986 where Peter and Bryan are hanging out in Frank’s dorm room). –Frank

Tape Land 161 – Frank Nora Show 1587.5 – Deranged Qualagy (10/20/10)

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is tapeland5_300.jpg

1:01:56 – Welcome to Tape Land! On each episode, I’ll present the audio of a cassette tape or historic material from my personal archives.

This one was labeled “FN Fail 10-20-10” in my files. Listening to it, it’s clear that my rant in the middle of the episode is the reason why I decided not to release it at the time. While it is a bit cringy, I think it’s deserving of release, 11.5 years later. (Had it been released it would have fallen between Frank Nora Show 1587 – Chrysler Mirage (10/19/10) and Frank Nora Show 1588 – Coatimunditron (10/21/10)).

Notes: The new Stereolab album Not Music, my honeymoon, trends in music, Times Square, pop culture is stalled, music from another source, Aeropostale, giant video screen, MTV, Blowout Video, Chilean miners rescue, conspiracy theories, UFOs, bobbleheads, Sleestak and Bossk, the aliens arrive, Candy Coburn, New Years glasses, Nerf armaments, wear purple today, bullying, divide the people, compassion, religion, give ’em enough rope, lunchtime, heavy topics, The River Line, Light Rail Meetup, bad areas, Mac OS Lion, technology problems, Health Harvest, The Frank Nora Show website, filtered bottled water.
