Thanks for listening to this podcast. (´∀`) 多è¬ä½ ï¼
The fact that your are so prolific in the podcast department is a bit of a curse I think; most people only have so many hours in the week to listen to a podcast. They have to pick and choose.
May I offer some advise? What about less-frequent podcasts? Shorter podcasts? What about an interview with Ruben and then he interviews you? Maybe do more about movies? Childhood?
We used to have this thing on the Quaquaversal satellite where people would send in topics and PQ and I would give out opinions about them. If you asked, I know I would oblige. It could be interesting. 🙂

Hey Jimbo, thanks for stopping by again! 🙂
A couple of months ago I was actually thinking of doing ‘short’ 20-minute podcasts twice a week (e.g. the one on trumpets), but as you can see that idea disappeared pretty quickly. I tend to take what someone else is doing as a ‘baseline’ and then do as they do or as they do +1, which results in this ‘prolific’ posting because basically I’m emulating their pattern (but worse). Same with the length, seeing as everyone usually records something ~1hr long, the original 20 minute ‘new format’ crept right back up. It’s difficult for me to not get influenced by ‘what everyone else is doing’ and I recognise it but no idea how to stop it.
On the other hand, I know there are also people as prolific and with long(er) podcasts – the difference between theirs and mine is 1. content 2. character (3. experience?). In my
headheart I’m thinking if they can do something that long and that often surely I have just as much of a right to, but in my head I know it’s not a strategy that works for me. I’m lacking in both these points (as well as 4. Delivery) so it makes sense to focus on length and how often until the other points are up to scratch. Short term pain, long term gain. What do you think about 20 minutes instead of an hour then? I always felt 20 minutes was more accessible.I’ve recorded a few things with Ruben before, but other than one that I was underwhelmed with (first recording I did ever) I have yet to see any of them… I don’t know if he’s interested, we had planned to do a podcast together a long time ago (I talked about that before haha) but it’s not happened. Nonetheless, I’m much happier on them I know – I laugh and make jokes haha. I love movies and shows so I can defos do that!
I’d be up for it if you wanted to send me topics. It’s always much more interesting recording something for the Overnightscape Central (quality notwithstanding) than it is trying to wrack my brains for something interesting to talk about, and usually digs up something more interesting or gives me motivation to go do some research and find out something new 🙂
Long reply, sorry.

Long replies are good.
Make sure you know, there is NOTHING wrong with the length of your podcasts, nor the content. However, the shorter the podcast is, I think the better chance you have of someone listening to it.
I don’t watch modern films but I know that is a very popular subject and I’ll bet when you talked ‘The Martian’ the other day, you probably had lots of people listen. Do you like old (pre-1960) films?
Some of the more popular subjects you may want to touch on: conspiracy theories (of any kind), synchronicity, popular music from the 1980s or before – especially focusing on specific and favorite bands or songs, video games from any era, your views on people who are 50+ years old, beverages other than tea,… that should get you started, IF you chose to talk about them. Again, I see nothing wrong with your current content, length of podcast, prolificness, etc. However, the odds are your favor more people will listen if you “sell out” LOL.

Haha thanks, and I agree they’re definitely more accessible. I started listening to Ruben’s (then suspended) podcast because the 10-20 minute ones were easy to pick up after all, not to mention smaller to download so you don’t *have* to be in wifi to access it necessarily. (In a way it also feels like cheating though, less time needed to record it.)
The problem with old films is……. I don’t have access to a lot of them! Maybe time to hit the library (if only I didn’t have fines so can’t borrow). Or the DVD store, they’re selling DVDs for $6.95 or less these days.
Thanks for the suggestions – definitely some interesting topics there. I particularly dislike conspiracy theories so maybe I won’t touch on that (or maybe I’ll talk about why I don’t like conspiracy theories hehe). I’m… an early 90s kid who only really had a childhood in the early 2000s when my brother was growing up, so this might be a bit of a challenge, but I’ll give it a go. I guess you can look out for some shorter podcasts with those items as topics then. 😉

I dunno about the others but NOW I am particularly interested in why you dislike conspiracies. Most everyone here seems to enjoy conspiracy talk (pro and con) and I bet it would fit right in.
Also, try to remember, we’re mostly a bunch of old men and like it or not, this is your audience, for the most part.
Have you ever listened to ‘Vic and Sade’? What did you think? Have you ever listened to Jean Sheperd? Art Bell? Any old radio?
